Finnair promo to increase awareness of the AY+ partners.
Promo was originally reported in the new promotions thread, but triggered major discussion and found a new home here.
The "New promotions" thread works best for reporting details of promotions and serves as a repository of current and historical promos.
Part of the AY+ vendors award points for purchases made from the vendor, others allow points redemption of awards (such as restaurant vouchers) only.
Vendors from which points can be received through purchases:
-Belizia (Samsonite suitcases, etc.)
-Decanter (Kitchen supplies)
-Moomin Shop (All kinds of Moomin materials)
-RTV-yhtymä (Hardware store)
-SSP Finland (Restaurants at Helsinki airport, minimum 15 € purchase)
-Tax Free Plus
-Timanttiset
-Finnair Plus Shop (Home deliveries only, beware of 6 € delivery fee)
-Lentoparkki (Airport parking)
-Suomen Urheiluopisto (Vierumäki)
-Joutsen stores (Dove coats, etc. but apparently cheapest item is 12 € dove shampoo)
-Various hotel chains
-Various car rental companies
Relatively effective points redemptions:
-Lippu.fi, 250 points minimum spend
-Finnkino, 400 points minimum spend
Credit cards etc., points awarded for card usage
-AY Co Branded cards
-Stockmann loyalty card

Campaign period: 15 January–31 March 2017. The extra award points will be added to participants’ accounts by 30 April 2017. The campaign applies to Finnair Plus partners’ services, excluding airlines. Points will be awarded in batches of 5,000, 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 after you have used the services of 5, 10, 15 or 20 partners, respectively. You can earn a maximum of 20,000 extra award points during the campaign. For example, if you use 12 different partners’ services during the campaign, you will receive 10,000 extra award points. Both earning points, which have been credited to participants’ accounts according to Finnair Plus rules, and using points (redeemed award vouchers and using points as payment directly with a service) will be counted. You can earn or use points for each partner’s services only once. Please note that e.g. a particular hotel chain is counted as only one partner, even if you stay at several of the chain’s hotels during the campaign. Points earned during the campaign do not affect your tier point balance. Normal Finnair Plus rules apply during the campaign. Finnair reserves the right to make changes at any time.

Without going to extra trouble, I can see myself doing the following
SEB Diners
SEB MC
American Express (minimum transfer)
SSP (HEL airport cafés, min 15€ spend, 2p/€)
Stockmann
--------------> 5k
with some extra trouble:
Accor (should I ever stay there, I can credit one night to AY)
Neste (how does it work?) EDIT: you can get a 50€ Neste Oil card for 38,53€ + 4000p. 12€ value for 4k points? Thanks, but no thanks!
Finnkino (no info on redeem value)
Sixt/Hertz/Europcar (crediting one rental to AY is not an issue, if I have a rental)
Sol (voucher for one suit laundry for 29,56€ + 3300 points)
-------------> 10k
with some more planning, some possibly paid but unused
one or two of the restaurants (Demo, Olo, Royal, etc)
Rocketmiles (especially if they have some good promo)
Pointshound
Expressbus
Lippu.fi
------------> 15k
I'll have the 5k without trying and maybe the 10k. Getting to 15k would involve too much trouble/money for the extra 5k.

I have been doing some investigation.
RTV seems to accrue 1 point per used euro so I think I will be buying a screw set or something. Decanter seems to offer cheap enough stuff and they also earn something per euro (was it 5 points per euro). On Finnkino ticket shop you can apparently choose the points you're going to use, so I guess using 1-10 points is alright? Tax-free Plus is easy to get on a non-EU flight.

I guess "using" a partner means in most cases that you pay for the partner's products/services at least partly with your AY+ points. For example, with Finnkino, you don't get any points for buying movie tickets, but you can use points to pay. In this case the rate isn't very attractive: 400 points / 1 euro (and that's the minimum). And isn't it more or less like this with the other partners as well?
Not completely useless, though; if I needed a fifth partner to release the 5k bonus, I could use the 400 points towards a movie ticket.

Good tip for RTV! A new screwdriver is always welcome :-)
Decanter - the cheapest stuff I found is a "koristeluraappa" for 2,90€
The Economist is a good choice, but there are so much better offers out there. I got some 10k IB Avios for my sub.
Patricia - if the lady of the house goes shopping, it never hurts to flash the AY card

I'm thinking...
Is using the mentioned cards really what they are promoting? Perhaps to count as a pertner use, you need to do something through the finnairplusshop.com like exchange points or similar.

It is. The activity is triggered when a member earns or spends points on other than flights (nor feedback compensation by AY).
Sad to see Oma hammaslääkärisi gone. My employer paid for my dental check just last year and then I got 1,000 points from it.

So for Amex it would be transferring some MR points to AY. Non-branded MC - I guess doesn't count.
