The wine list from DXB-LAX last Sunday was the least impressive I've seen in years. The P2 was the only one that was up to their usual standards. And even the P2 was all cleaned out 3/4 of the way to LAX. I'll never complain about drinking '06 Lagrange or '11 Craggy Range but from a comparison standpoint it was noticeable. The bright spot? In the A Lounge prior to the flight, I found 2004 Margaux, 2005 Lynch Bages, 2007 Leovile Poyferre, and 2013 Eisele. They weren't all in the same area but with 6 hours in the the lounge I was able to "sample" them all. With the time to spare and also trying to stay awake, I made my way to the F Lounge near the C gates too. The 2004 Margaux was still there for self serve.

Heading to DXB aboard EK768 at the moment - and will hunt for some Ch Margaux and other gems tonight and at lunchtime tomorrow. Anyone around and fancying sharing a bottle or two?

Since this is your first First flight - what exactly are you expecting or hoping to avoid?

Not looking to avoid anything but hoping for some vintage red wine which I think I read somewhere are not served on all destinations. Just checking if this is correct, either way no big deal.

But to get back to marcros original question, I think its fair to say that one cannot say that wines on the LGW route are systematically better or worse than on the BKK route. It seems to vary by month (and sometimes surprises are thrown in at shorter notice).

The last remnants of the Margaux 2004 and Lynch-Bages 2005 at the C23 F lounge if anyone is passing through this weekend. Oh and some Cantenac Brown 2006.
The Lagrange 2006 is on at B F lounge but you might need to hunt for it (on the service stations in the restuarant) because the Petit Haut Lafitte 2011 (which is on board in J ex-Europe) is the main one at the bars. Also the old Two Hands Bellas Garden may be knocking about.

P2 seems to have dropped off the wine list showing online in the last few days which is a shame (replaced with 2008). On the plus side, both my STN and HND flights next week are showing 1998 Margaux which I have a feeling I'll be drinking a lot of...

Also, if they run out of the Margaux having the Kapcsndy Estate Cuve 2012 as a back up is comforting.

For anyone on the Australian flights I can confirm that both the Mount Mary Quintet and Two Hands Ares Shiraz were memorable.
served P2 on the ground at LHR (previously I have usually had the J champagne before take off). It was very good but I actually preferred the ‘normal’ Dom in the air as the P2 seemed to become quite bland at altitude #firstworldproblem
