The special fare type looks increasingly likely to be the reserved fare class for cheap 3rd party booking channels like travel agents/promotional, instead of something you can book regularly - e.g. "tactical" (I believe that is the current revenue management buzzword!) promotions to boost load factors in a certain market/segment. For all intents and purposes, saver is the same as special, for standard bookings, it seems.

have the same message.
however that's what I know (same for Eco/Business/First)
Special: no upgrade possible
Saver: only at check-in or on-board (silver,gold,plat,io)
Flex and Flex Plus: anytime
regarding the special fares. AFAIK this are the special-special fares (X and V class) and I havent seen them for a long time (maybe once a year for a special in Economy)

best thing i have noticed is i can book a j saver and a y flex (so i can upgrade) online.
Love the fact that i can actually see the prices of all at once, and also biz saver at the same time as the eco - will save me countless backwards and forward searching!
Sure I will will find something i dont like, but at the moment well done ek web team!

Booking system is working great for me so far.
Fares just went up, a few days ago the online fare for ISB-DOH in J was approx. 4200 USD, now it's up to almost 4400 USD.
4200 USD fare was available 2 days ago.
Now it's almost 4400.
What gives?
Dates I've selected are in mid-June.

Yes, I spoke to a guy this morning to change a flight, and he said he'd had his training last Friday and was among the last group to be trained. He had expected the same start date as us, but only because he's also a Skywards member and had read the website. He hadn't been told a start date as an employee, and still doesn't know a definite date - just this month sometime.
He did indicate that there were now better miles earning opportunities, but didn't seem impressed when I pointed out it was probably only going to be true if you paid significantly more.
One thing he mentioned that I hadn't picked up on was the new lower levels of miles equate to 25%, 35% and 70% of those earned before. I don't know if that's across the board, or an average or what.

If I could get ID fares I would not bother with this FFP!
