I too would love EK to have A380 operations at MEL with 3 flights daily too! But's its only a dream, but it could happen

If there is enough aircraft availablility. There is 3 or 4 A380 is coming sometimes in fall 2011. There is 11 or 12 A380 is expected to deliveries sometimes in 2012. If the routes is subject to change without notice. I wasn't sure if EK will have a consider to start new routes from DXB-ORD nonstop on entire 77W or A380. If city of Chicago aviation department will have approves to installed double dual jetbridge.

However, I don't see anything else. I know EK is negotiations to served MIA-DXB nonstop. If there is on the weight restrictions on operated 77W or A380. If there is enough more demands. Lets try to speculating about this one. The entire A380 can handle enough more range to reaches into MIA & ORD nonstop without penalty restrictions and it will save the fuel burns is 1 percent and more fuel efficient and more capabilities. EK can have own justifications the fifth freedom traffic rights through DXB-MIA/ORD nonstop.

I doubt anyone here objects if ek gets 5th freedom rights to carry pax RTW from/to/thru/ either mia or ord, is there any proof that the USA FAA will allow this or not? ;)as there is some talk of RTW from dxb-santiago-nz etc.:( I for 1 hope that eventually there is some sort of 5th freedom rights from dxb-usa-nz etc.

@Emirates777

Can you confirm that EK will introduce a second daily flight to DUR from October this year?

Its by no means on. According to my information, Its been put on the drawing board by EK strategic planning as part of the long standing corporate strategy to introduce routes that look unlikely -- literally leaps of faith -- but actually have strong underlying market potential, quite like the regional Uk and west Africa strategies.

There are various other possibilities, --this one is striking in its boldness as it then gives EK RTW capability

The other way would have been Vancouver- HKG/Seoul/China but thats obviously off the table

And I dont think transpacific fifth freedoms from the US are on the cards.

But the South Pacific route has a lot of trafiic currently almost 100 per cent dominated by OW --- and huge potential as an alternative route to Asia which QF is choosing to ignore and Air NZ does not have the muscle to exploit. JAL has recently also shut its Brazil Japan route.

SO there you go...Claasic EK leap of faith but not without some substance!

Im in DXB today and will post if I learn any more

Update: the second flight will now start as planned March 27. :)

Unfortunately, Austria is denies the landing rights to EK. Because EK can't accepted to start service to VIE for this time. I have some bad news for you guys. Austria won't lets EK into VIE. Why can't have a fifth freedom traffic rights through DXB-VIE-DXB. It doesn't have a right things to do to against Austria government. I know there is no possibility to start second daily service DXB-VIE anytime soon.

Your "Bad news" seems to be outdated as the flight increase to VIE is going ahead.

What does DXB MIA/ORD/VIE has anything to do with fifth freedom rights>

It can be confirmed at the Vienna Airport website where EK 125 and EK 127 are expected to land and 126 and 128 to depart.

I actually called Vienna airport information to confirm the double daily flight. The second EK flight leaves Vienna 22:50 which is good for me since I use that airport here, and there. :)

Here is the link to the Vienna Airport information.

A little off topic but it looks like the Consevative government in Canada will win a majority in the upcoming elections. I can't see EK expanding into Canada for years to come while they are in power.:(

IMHO it's Better to "wait and see" after May 3rd 2011 when the results come out, to see who wins what numbers-there is still some small talk amongst politicians and lay people too-of a 3 way coalition (if they combinedly win more seats & can work together ) that might be more liberal, still eventually perhaps a few years down the line-Ek'll might get the expansion into Calgary, Vancouver and more flights to /Toronto, perhaps after washington State's {in USA over the border 4 hours from Vancouver international} (I.E.Sea-tac) etc are opened and running :p

Apparently not..spoke to a contact in Ek management on another issue and slipped the question in.. apparently ALL decisions on route expansion of this nature will be only for 2013 or beyond, as they are having to contend with too much with the steady inexorable expansion and multiple demands coming in from existing routings. ""Consolidation"" was the word used.

thanks rathin100 for your kindness! sadly us RTW's will have to wait for 2013 (or longer??:td: for ek management to give us world travelers something that's really a money spinner for ek, (they've other priorities so far:cool:)

on another topic Lufthansa is the first to confirm MIA as it's next a380 airport, so can Ek be far behind them?:D
