The previous ones I have listed I like them warm. For cold ones, nothing beats a sandwich containing thin slices of turkey breast. ^

A few favorites:

A lamb and blue cheese double-dipped French Dip from Phillipe's in Los Angeles.

The soft-shell crab hoagie I got from a little neighborhood diner by the docks in Baltimore.

The pastrami sandwich on Jewish rye at Canter's Deli on Fairfax
(...where it's fun to tease the waiter by asking for kosher "ham & cheese on a bagel"...)

A torta stuffed full of carnitas, queso fresco, avocado, shreded lettuce, and salsa verde from Alberto's drive-through in San Diego

A really good burger -

On the other side, I sometimes also like

- a really good pulled pork
- Ham Salad

Cold: (Thick, Crispy) Bacon-turkey-avocado-swiss (in just the right proportions, NO lettuce!) on hand-sliced hearty white with just enough mayo to hold it together.

Hot: Proscuitto-apricot jam-crumbled goat cheese pannini on just about any hearty bakery bread.

And I like the Mediterranean Veggie on Tomato Basil on Panera Bread.

Made one of my favorite sandwiches just today.

BBQ grilled slices of salami on toasted sesame bagel with smokey BBQ sauce, avocado and grilled onions. AWESOME!

Well, multi-grain is preferred over white bread. :p Though I really like pumpernickel or dark rye with caraway seeds.

Five more:

11. Genuine Lebanon Bologna and a mild cheese like provolone on sourdough.
12. Liverwurst and raw onions on rye, heavy mustard.
13. A tall stack of shaved Smoked turkey, light on the mayo, a little crisp bacon on a hard roll with poppy seeds.
14. Grilled cheese, real american, with tomato, pickles or bacon. Must be accompanied by cool tempertures and tomato soup.
15. Avocado, tomato & alfafa sprouts, light on the mayo, thick sliced home-baked bread.

That does look good. Got to try making one myself.

Tuna or Reuben

albie Jul 24, 2007 4:11 pm

Reuben, hands down...but I had no idea I was in such good company!
Actually, let me qualify that - my reubens are corned beef only (no pastrami).

And the recent poster with alfalfa sprouts, avocado and tomato reminded me of what I lived on while in university...but with mustard, rather than mayo.

I didn't eat red meat for about 12 years -- by choice -- but like Punki, made an exception for a reuben about once or twice a year. Now I eat meat...but live in a country where I can't find reubens, much less corned beef... so really miss out!

Porchetta - but only in Italy.

I'll take your word for it, if you take mine that the porchetta sandwich you can get from Roli Roti at the San Francisco Ferry Building Farmer's Market is about as fine a breakfast as one could have. ;)

- A good chicken parmesan hero on sesame Italian bread

- A good meatball hero on the same bread.

- A chicken caesar wrap with NO tomatoes

- If the cold cuts are good, turkey, ham, roast beef, swiss, lettuce, cucumbers and honey mustard

And finally...PB&J with Jif Creamy, Grape Jam on white bread :D
