Yum. What kind of bread? With chimichurri or some other condiment?

Great minds pretty much think (and eat) alike. :) I actually prefer my sliced brisket on rye with deli mustard and cole slaw. Everything else is spot on.

I really can't think of a sandwich I don't like. LOL. :D But, there is one that is kind of hard to find, so it is always what I order when I do and that is a Montecristo.

I had one not that long ago, but I associate it with the now defunct Bennigan's chain.

The Italian Combo at the local deli in the town where I grew-up was (and remains) my favorite. I do a pretty credible re-creation of it at home (we don't really have any credible Italian delis here in Hartford).

I use:

Arthur Avenue Italian Bread
Iceberg Lettuce
Yellow Onion
Hot Cherry Peppers
Light Olive Oil & Red Wine Vinegar
Hellman's Mayonaise
Mortadela
Genoa Salami
Pepperoni
Boiled Ham
Provolone Cheese
Oregano

I take the bread, slice it down the middle (but not all the way through) and remove the excess dough.

I shred the lettuce and thinly slice the yellow onion. I then add the cherry peppers and toss with the olive oil, the vinegar and the oregano.

I spread a layer of the mayo on both sides of the bread.

Spreading the bread open like a book, I add the provolone, then the ham, then the mortadela, then the salami and finally the pepperoni.

I put the lettuce/onion/pepper mixture in the middle and fold it over. Since I hollowed-out the bread, it should come together tightly.

I wrap it in aluminum foil and chill it for an hour or so to let the flavors meld.

I can eat hundreds of those chicken sandwiches along with those waffle fries! :D My favorite sandwich is a grilled cheese with ham or a reuben with Thousand Island and no sauerkraut :)

Best sandwich ever - Andy C at Jerry's in Chicago:

Skirt steak, roasted peppers, sliced avocado, cheddar cheese, southwest mayo on a pretzel roll.

Most sandwiches I've seen listed I like, too. Haven't seen these...

* Peppered salami, sliced brie, and some greens on a crusty baguette.
* Peanut butter and honey on soft, white bread.

I have to add Cuban to my list now. I became quite attached to them last time I was in Florida.

I need to get myself over to Paseo and try one of theirs.

Panera makes a Cuban Chicken that doesn't suck... but its not quite the same.

Cubans are good.

I had a terrific sandwich at Veselka in NYC's East Village the other day:

The Baczynski - Thinly-sliced Polish Ham, Ukrainian Salami, Podlaski Cheese, and pickled vegetable relish on Potato Bread.

I likened it to a Ukrainian Mufeletta. :)

That list is pretty slim compared to what it once was. I remember staying in Tampa for 3 nights and eating at 2 different Bennigans while I was there. Sadly, none in TN right now, but good to see the Monte Christo alive and well.
