Ever had a good sub at Subway?

I have to say that since they started toasting their subs, I'm much more likely to eat one. They still don't compare to Quiznos or some other chains, but they'll do when my only other option is a Big Mac.

I have to do a lot of driving and usually the choice is between Subway, McDonalds, or BK. I don't mind Subway and usually choose them over the other fast food. The Chicken Parmesan is good but I am sure it is not the healthiest of their subs. I much prefer Jimmy Johns over Subway, but usually they are hard to find where I travel.

No!
Nope!
Nopers!
Not in my lifetime, I quit eating their probably 10 or more years ago. I dont like the concept of big fat pieces of bread and just a little dab of meat. I'd prefer it to be the other way around...LOL

I only get the tuna sub at Subway. Everything else I have had there is just awful.
I opt for Quiznos, even with the higher cost. Their new prime rib sub is awesome.

I was a Sandwich Artist in high school (best job I ever had, in fact; the owners would leave each night when my friends and I showed up for work, so we'd have the place to ourselves!). And, yes, they really are called Sandwich Artists. Anyway, to answer the post, I had many good subs at Subway--when I would make them. It was the one exception to the rule that a sandwich made by someone else tastes better. Once I stopped working there I couldn't even think of eating at Subway for years; my sandwiches had ruined it for me.
I completely agree that the average Subway employee either doesn't understand or doesn't care about making a decent sandwich, following explicit instructions, or using simple reasoning. But I've also found that this varies from franchise to franchise, rather than employee to employee. So find a good franchise and you'll probably get a decent sandwich nine out of ten times. I think this has more to do with the franchisee's ability to recognize/interest in hiring good employees (i.e. those with an understanding of customer service) than training. My friends and I may have blasted rock music, partook in illegal substances, and generally just misbehaved as employees on slow nights, but when a customer came in, we made him/her a good sandwich.
And I agree that Quizno's is exponentially better.
Oh, and don't eat the tuna. Or the seafood mix, if they still have that. Nasty stuff that.

I no longer go to Subway
I pulled into one on a cross country drive (somewhere through Tennessee?). I knew something was up when the meat I was eating was warm. Not body temperature warm, but more like room temperature warm. Isn't it supposed to be cooled while it's on the line? Must've been sitting there for a while.
Dumb me, I ate it because I was: 1. hungry, and 2. tired of McDees.
Needless to say, the 6" turkey sub made it's way out of my mouth into the toilet of the hotel I stayed in that night. Twice.
At least I felt better after getting it out of my stomach.

I wasn't sure whether to append here or on the tuna sandwich thread.
We've had a couple new sub chains open locally in the past year.
Mrs BamaVol and I tried Fire House Subs back in the fall. We only ordered one sub and split it. We were both satisifed, but I don't recall what we ordered.
Last night, BamaVol Jr #3 and I tried Lenny's. I had been given a couple 2 for 1 coupons and figured what the heck. Miss BamaVol, who works closeby, had said to expect something similar to Jersey Mikes, an outlet where she worked back in Charlotte. BV3 ordered the Italian and I ordered Tuna. I was pleased when the sandwich maker told BV3 that they did not recommend mustard or mayo on the Italian. However, the hot pepper relish overwhelmed the flaovr of the cold cuts. On the other hand, the hot pepper relish did not add enough flavor to the bland tuna. And this is my biggest complaint about tuna salad ordered out - mayonaise does not flavor tuna! - you must add relish, onions, salt, pepper, paprika, something for gawdsakes or it just tastes like canned tuna and mayonaise.
So: Lenny's
unless I figure out what and how to order there for a superior sub experience.

Quiznos quality is much higher, but then so are their prices. Potbelly has high quality but has managed to keep the price reasonable. It is still less than $4 everywhere I've seen it. However, I presume they keep prices down by keeping it simple, one size and several choices, instead of two or three sizes and countless choices. Subway is mediocre - their "meat" is of questionable quality - it is worse than just about any choice in your grocer's deli case.

I've tried all the different breads at Subway, tried all the different meats and I don't like them either. I have found that Wendy's has a few different frescata sandwiches that taste pretty good. of course, they dropped the Italian one I liked the best.
My favorite sub sandwich is at a place in Woodhaven, Mi. called Pipers-just great!
Or I make it myself, but the tomatoes have to be good-not the winter plastic tasting ones.

We're talking a gas station convenience store chain, right? Do they at least make the sandwiches to order? Or are you talking about some cellophane wrapped sandwich from the cooler? I've never been in one since I can pay at the pump for gas.
