My go to is Union Square Cafe for the exact same reasons. Clearly Danny Meyer is onto something

Anyone eaten at Mume or Tairroir in Taipei? Both look great; I have dinner reservations at them for later in May. I'm waitlisted at Raw (a bit amazed that I made the reservation request literally at the earliest possible day and time, but they are "already full" for both dinner and lunch; c'est la vie).

RAW is a gorgeous space, but the style of food it does (basically very modern Western cuisine) didn’t impress me that much relative to restaurants doing the same thing in Europe or the U.S.

I can’t speak to the others you mentioned, but YEN (on the top of the W Taipei) was excellent.

Lastly - I don’t think any of these are starred, as Taiwan does not have its own Michelin guide.

Indeed! Am yet to have a bad experience at any of the USHG restaurants....the specials on Krug are always welcome too When the previous USC location was closing I think half bottles of Krug were $55 or something similar...achingly cheap.

Thanks!

As to the starring, Michelin does in fact have a Taiwan guide--it's new for 2018. 20 starred restaurants, including 1 with 3 stars and 2 with 2 stars.

I had no idea - thanks for that! Not surprised RAW would make it, then. I do wish I had this guide when I was there last summer...

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for starred restaurants in Chicago?
Had a fantastic meal at Acadia two years ago, and would like to go back.
Any insight to places like Alinea, Sepia, Grace....? Other places?
Thanks in advance

Grace is now permanently closed.

Alinea is amazing if you can get the tickets using Tock.

Highly recommend Everest and Girl and the Goat.

I'm heading to Chicago in July, and here's what I've booked so far mostly gathered from this thread: Girl and the Goat, Topolobampo, Oriole, and *hopefully* Alinea (still waiting for the July seats to be released). If I don't end up getting Alinea, I'm thinking either Acadia, Roister, or Everest (thanks bhrubin!) would be my backup.

It'll be my first time visiting Chicago, so while I can't comment on how good these places are hope they at least give you some ideas!

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on Tock for Alinea, then
Agree that Girl and the Goat is great, have been there twice
I'll look into Everest, thank you so much

My pleasure! I’d actually say Acadia has a better rep now than Everest, but I’ve never eaten at Acadia. Oriole and Blackbird are others you may consider. If I couldn’t get Alinea, I’d aim for Acadia or Oriole to try something newer. Everest, though, is always wonderful IMO.

And I hear amazing things now about Boka, with a former chef from EMP.

Same for me, never been to Acadia but the reputation here in Chicago is probably better than Everest, which I think suffers a bit from being "an oldie but a goodie". I think Topo and also Naha (I love both) also suffer from not being new enough. Can't go wrong with any of the 3. I also agree with the many people who mentioned Girl and the Goat, still one of my favorites after 5-6 times, and at a much much lower price point than many of the others. Practically affordable .

Of the others mentioned in the half dozen or so posts preceding mine, the one that I thought was rather average is Sepia (been twice)...average when compared to others with stars at least. Also, if you're going to only one Paul Kahan restaurant, I'd pick Publican over Blackbird every time. Possibly the best oysters in Chicago. But I have not had a bad bite at any of his restaurants.

Boka (1*, next to Alinea) is delicious and I believe it deserves 2 stars

Not to repeat myself, even if it’s heresy, but I was underwhelmed when I ate at Alinea 5 years ago. I was also underwhelmed by Grace, too...but I did love the slightly upscale casual spots in town.
