Grilled cheese sandwich, potato chips, iced tea, and one Hershey kiss (tonight I decided on the red foil wrapped kiss)

Just Passing Thru Dec 13, 2004 8:10 am

Don't yet know what we're having tonight, but last night it was three-mushroom risotto with lump crabmeat. Plus asparagus, red bell pepper strips and mushrooms sauteed in oil and garlic as the side.

Tonight is $1.50 Polish Sausage night at my local Chicago-style hotdog place. Gonna grab a couple "Maxwell Street style" and watch MNF.

Arcolaio99 Dec 13, 2004 7:13 pm

For dinner I had Teriyaki Noodles (Lo Mein)… Was actually good as well… But Its oily… Another pleasant meal… ^

ermdjdsj Dec 13, 2004 8:47 pm

Roast pork stuffed with apricots, hazelnuts, and peppers, in an apricot brandy sauce (pre-prepared at a gourmet market nearby, all I do is pop it into the oven for 70 minutes at 350 degrees). Gewuertztraminer wine to go with this relatively sweet-tasting dish.

StudentExplorer Dec 16, 2004 9:08 pm

Grilled chicken breast over baby spinach with herbed goat cheese.

Oh, and just to see if I could do it, I made dinner rolls from scratch.

Several months ago I fired up the Weber and slow-smoked an enormous mess o' meat (pork ribs, pork loin, chicken, italian sausage) over hickory and basted with my own Kansas City-style barbecue sausage.

It was heaven tonight to be able to take a half-slab of ribs from the freezer and re-heat them. Very tasty and made the house smell great.

Either mom's cooking or left over roasted chicken with trader joes fresh stirfry veggies and that udon mix that they sell at grocery store in the produce section.

The weather sucks here and its a good day for udon, comforting and warm.

Leftover spaghetti for me

A friend with a very nice wine cellar is moving across country and doesn't plan to transport much of the wine. Lucky me, he's coming for dinner tonight and will be bringing several bottles of Opus One tonight for a vertical tasting. The men in the house have planned the food pairings, but I'm not sure what they are as of yet.

Who cares about the food, just drink the wine dear, just drink the wine. :)

Dinner for me is a salad and a homemade blueberry bran muffin. I had a nice brunch today, so don't need a big meal tonight.

cblaisd May 22, 2005 10:11 pm

The "mini-plate" of chowmein and lemon chicken from the Yichiba Noodle House was particularly tasty tonight. ^

cblaisd Jul 9, 2005 4:08 am

Charcoal-grilled mahi mahi in lemon grass marinade
Rice with shoyu
Spinach salad
Chunks of fresh white Maui pineapple
Pillsbury breadsticks (I know, I know) brushed with butter and sprinkled with garlic salt before baking.
Breyers Vanilla Ice Cream with chocolate sauce

Yum.

cblaisd Aug 20, 2005 12:07 am

A friend brought back some country ham from Kentucky.

So tonight's fare:

Fried three slices of ham and made scratch biscuits.

Butter the biscuits.
Add ham slices
Enjoy with a glass of milk.

One of the world's great tastes.

And good for you ;)

Myoplex bar after a hard (well hard for me) 4 miler :)

whirledtraveler Jan 5, 2006 3:08 pm

Turkey Haggis - stuff a turkey with ground heart, lungs, oatmeal, salt and pepper. Then steam it in an oven for a while. Yum.

You serious? You can eat just one of those bars for dinner? I was thinking a steak or something :).

Tennisbum Jan 5, 2006 3:10 pm

I'm having a delicious sandwich of last night's chicken leftovers, sliced, on whole-wheat pita with mayo.

If there weren't any leftovers, it would be take-out time.

richard Jan 5, 2006 3:13 pm

brown a whole chicken in butter in a pot/pan big enough to hold it

remove and drain away the excess fat

in the same pan, soften rough-cut (in big pieces) carrots, celery, peeled potatoes. 8 cloves of peeled garlic. And some herb (thyme or tarragon or combination), takes about 10 minutes.

Add 1 cup of cream and 2 cups of stock, bring to a boil

Add the chicken back in, cover, and simmer until cooked (40 - 60 minutes.)

When cooked, remove chicken and veggies. With the stove on high, reduce the sauce a bit. Cut the chicken, assemble with the veggies, pour on some sauce, and serve.

This is my favorite way to have chicken on a cold Winter night.

It all depends on what time I get out of here tonight. If I get out in the next few hours then I'll run, shower, and grab a bite to eat. But if its late, I'll run, shower, eat the bar and hit the rack. I don't like to eat a big meal right before bed time.

I envy you. I can't go to sleep hungry.

New York Steak w/ Portobello Mushrooms
Risotto (Parmesan)
Fresh String Beans
Caesar Salad w/ Lemon Pepper Jumbo Shrimp

Vanilla Ice Cream with Raspberry Compote

YUMMMMMMMMMMM

magiciansampras Jan 5, 2006 5:18 pm

I decided to go with bbq chicken, made in the broiler. I lather up chicken breasts and drumsticks with bbq sauce and broil the crap out of them. For sides I have a salad, some corn and two "packs" of zucchini and squash cooked in tin foil packs with salt, pepper and olive oil.

MapleLeaf Jan 5, 2006 5:30 pm

I had Kraft Dinner :) Couldn't decide and definitely was not in the mood to cook.

richard Jan 5, 2006 5:32 pm

what we are ending up with:

homemade "barbecue" pork (diced pork tenderloins in a homemade BBQ sauce)

homemade mac 'n' cheese (a big fave around our house...one of the Great Foods)

tossed salad

Richard, this sounds scrumptious - but I would deglaze the pan with some calvados first - yummm

A rather, er, fusion approach tonight.....

Some very yummy ahi shoyu poke, lightly seared and then mixed with some locally-made chowmein noodles.

Accompanied by some homemade black bread and a tangerine from the neighbor's garden.

Finished with chocolate dipped shortbread cookies

jfe Jan 14, 2006 10:47 pm

I made pizza

Prosciutto, pepperoni and mushrooms.

Made the dough with a little bit of wheat flour and baked it in my brand new pizza stone I got for xmas ;)

MapleLeaf Jan 15, 2006 5:12 am

I had a hot chicken sandwich. Yummy :)

cblaisd Jan 20, 2006 9:35 pm

Another homemade fusion approach tonight.....

Shark steaks marinated in Thai fish sauce, lightly seasoned with garlic, then cooked over charcoal on a cedar plank. Very intriguing blend of flavors actually :)

Spinach and red-leaf lettuce salad

Rice with shoyu

Crescent rolls

Breyers Rocky Road ice cream for dessert :D
