A worthy reprise of the very same item tonight, except done take-out and eaten in the backyard looking at Mt. Diablo in the background.

Last night was rice pilaf (what else?) prepared with some canned La Sueur peas. I DO have a couple pears (not anjou) in the fridge, but they're not ripe yet. Eating some peaches, instead.

cblaisd Jun 21, 2003 5:06 pm

Yesterday's repast was thick-cut smoked porked chops grilled over hickory, a spinach salad with walnuts and dried cranberries, a version of dirty rice, lightly pan-toasted pita points sprinkled with grated romano and fresh basil, and strawberries and raspberries for dessert.

tonight:

half-chicken rubbed with salt, pepper, olive oil and rosemary

steamed fresh spinach

cous-cous w/ raisins

Discoverd when I got home this afternoon, that Mrs. cblaisd had marinated chicken breasts and steaks (too bad they weren't kanebear's steaks!) in a cilantro and pepper marinade. Very yummy. My job was to cook them on the grill over mesquite. We rounded out the meal with salad, homemade dinner rolls (again thanks to Mrs. cblaisd!), fruit, and -- sometimes its fun to eat childhood treats -- homemade Rice Krispie treats drizzled with chocolate.

anonplz Oct 6, 2003 6:43 am

I had kebabs made from beef/veal and, separately, potatoes, with yogurt and chili sauce on the side. And a little mustard. Accompanied with naan. It was good! (Haven't had pears yet this season...)

Please, let's not talk about food today. I'm fasting and would probably even eat a UA F meal I'll be so hungry tonight. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

My chicken satay is marinating as we speak, and I just finished making the spicy peanut sauce... yummy!

I wanted Culver's last night, but they were closed for an Employee Recognition dinner. Fortunately, my townhome association meeting tonight is next door to Culver's, so I will get my frozen custard fix before the meeting after all. Dinner is something fattening in a bar while watching the Cubs game.

This is pathetic. I prepared breakfast sausages and rice pilaf for my husband and (resident) sister.
I'm on NutriSystem, and had their pre-packaged beef & noodles. Palatable, but not delicious. Also had frozen mixed vegetables.

About to have an apple.

anonplz Oct 7, 2003 4:45 pm

Tonight, either beef kebabs (again - froze a batch) and naan, or Thai takeout. Maybe a pot of lentils would be easiest/cheapest.

RobotDoctor Oct 7, 2003 9:42 pm

I had a New York steak, medium, and a baked potato. I was a bad boy that I didn't prepare a veggie. I will have 2 helpings tomorrow.

sangster Oct 7, 2003 9:59 pm

a sandwich from one of the dining halls on campus... red wrap, green peppers, smoked turkey, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, lettece, salt, pepper and layer of honey mustard...don't take home cooked food for granted!

Thank you for the past threads. I know this has been done before. Done and well done http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

But this is a new day.

I think I'll make some type of chicken curry tonight as well.

Hope you enjoyed yours as much as I enjoyed mine. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

I did. I made chicken braised in spiced yogurt sauce, and mushroom curry. It was quite good actually. I could eat Indian food every night.

underpressure Jan 25, 2004 3:28 pm

Since my 10 YO daughter asked this of me last night...

Here is what I told her:

Spiced beef pate, rolled and encased in a fine vegetable wrap. Served with your choice of rolls.

Escallop pasta, lightly salted and with a touch of olive oil, surrounded by a multiple cheese paste, served warm.

Tomato puree, finely chopped onions, and Grey popoun as compliments.

She got: Mac and Cheese and Hotdogs

As I often do, I'm dining with a moderate carb restriction tonight:

Tonight is an Eastern European dish my mother made up in a big pot for me to take home with me to share with my s.o. It's called "bigos" -- it has sauerkraut, pork rib meat, mushrooms, salt, pepper.

I'm going to eat some of it with toasted Atkins rye bread, a mixed green salad with blue cheese dressing, and a glass or two of Ravenswood Zinfandel. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

Dessert is "Carb-smart" strawberry ice cream.

I like to have a nice home cooked meal the night before I have to head out on the road for the week and endure room service and take out for lunch http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/frown.gif

mmmm ...

My 23 year old son who is in 2nd semester culinary arts has thrown together a marinade in which some steaks are now sitting absorbing some culture.

Since I don't cook well, it's great to have two very fine cooks in the household.

Marysunshine Jan 25, 2004 6:33 pm

Just finished putting the house together after traditional sunday family dinner: Roast Pork on garlic bread with salad, lo mein and fried rice. Yummmm

gleff Jan 25, 2004 6:58 pm

Tonight was just a filet with bleu cheese and a sauce made of demiglace and stock with some onions and mushrooms. Very standard and easy, but also delicious.

Oh, and I had a couple scoops of Maggie Moo's "Better Batter" ice cream. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif

robb Jan 25, 2004 7:14 pm

Just dropped one of the T-Bones on the grill (I'll never understand why my boyfriend wants his steaks well-done http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/frown.gif ), and I'll start on the Broccoli in Cheese Sauce in a little while.

cordelli Jan 25, 2004 7:27 pm

Well Done T-Bones

He should be arrested.
