Spiced halibut with yellow tomatoes and a yoghurt sauce
Peaches in white wine.

Looks amazing. I had a wonderful Reuben piled high with corned beef this weekend. One of the advantages of our area is that there is a large Jewish population and thus several Jewish delis - corned beef, pastrami, etc. We're not Jewish, so ignorantly weren't expecting the long lines (thanks social distancing) this weekend with the holiday. But still managed to get my Reuben with a deli pickle, bagels, chive cream cheese, and whitefish salad.

Yuck... Pumpkin cookie butter?

once upon a bagel?
in the past, I’ve phoned in orders for OUAB and it’s gone nicely.

Yes. I noticed this time that they had "thins" there. Not the very thin type they sell in grocery stores, but just a little less bready. It still looked like a real bagel rather than one someone sat on. We'll be trying those in the future, since I try to limit how much bread I eat.

Oh, and I like to see my bagels...no ordering ahead for me. :) But there did seem to be quite a few pickup orders while I was there. Again, a little busier than usual due to the holiday.

So fun - I also love eating there. Or I did :-)

I'm drooling here...I've been craving a fudge brownie blizzard for weeks and haven't gotten over there yet. The pumpkin cookie butter shake looks wonderful also...guess I'm going twice. :)

blizzard with chocolate ice cream and brownie pieces.

I don’t know if other DQ locations stock the pumpkin cookie butter. I should have had a different shake. Sigh

can you doctor up an improvement? Now I’m fearing that it’s made with old (unsold) pork.

No, those are pre-packaged, manufactured elsewhere trays. It's not that the pork is old/unsold. It's usually that the seasonings or sauces aren't quite what one would expect.

gaobest Sep 25, 2020 7:56 pm

Grilled steak
cheeseburgers on roll-ppang
roasted Brussels sprouts (just salt)
roasted Brussels sprouts (salt, cumin, thyme, cinnamon, & paprika)
oven-baked steak fries
leftover tomatillo sauce
leftover mexican rice

desserts tbd but absolutely no sartori branded products tonight :p

Correct, of course.

I may try to salvage by using some of my bbq spice techniques, but likely won't buy again. Given that I do an excellent smoked barbecue myself (he said humbly :D) I will know to refrain from this sort of thing next time.

Braised beef short ribs, Caesar salad, and a wonderful Bedrock old Vine Zin. A handful of trail mix for dessert.

I've also tried that one once. Ungodly sweet. Hard to tell what else is wrong with all that sugar in there. We actually rinsed the meat in a colander and re-seasoned it to salvage something.

Tonight it will be roast partridge, bread sauce and carrots followed by a blackberry crumble. Washed down with a 2010 Petit Bourgeois. Nice trad dinner for the first truly autumnal day.

corky Sep 26, 2020 9:19 pm

arugula salad with grated pecorino romano, dried cranberries and a champagne/citrus vinaigritte.
Deconstructed pizza because the pizza from last night totally fell apart when I tried to reheat it. Crust was too soggy from tomato sauce.

Surely your kid didn't eat any of those things. Did he have a cheeseburger, pizza or french toast?

Zero supper for our child - no hunger due to snacking during a masked play date.

The boars head brand just says pumpkin pie hummus. It’s probably gone off by now but I look forward to trying that pumpkin spread. Ooh maybe today. Omg.

How does one snack while masked? And indeed, snack enough to spoil one’s supper without having the mask off for a lot of time thereby making it an unmasked play date? Sounds like there was a whole lotta unmasked time. Serious question as we do not wear masks where I live save for a few businesses that request it (Starbucks, Whole Foods etc).

it’s the same as any play date with people. People play outdoors while masked. When it’s snack time, they sit apart, remove masks, and snack. After snacking, they put on hand sanitizing spray, put mask back on, and play. That’s how people gather together.

the play date was 2 hours with a handful of minutes for snacking. People snack at random speeds and during pandemic it’s faster than what would be usual.

I live in a city with very strict mask rules, including outdoors. every play date is outside - it’s just different than what the press shows for other places.
The only time I’m home, I’ll only be going indoors inside a public space for groceries/food or refueling propane although I recently had to get a light bulb for the kitchen counter and that was an indoor light shop. It’s not the standard lightbulb in a 4-pack but one of those long 24” (??) thin tubes that’s $15 retail yet worth not storing in my house since it would likely break in storage.
