Unfortunately you just described about every hawker center in Singapore. It's all good. I'd just like to promote some of the lesser known places. If you say "Roast Paradise" or "Fatty Cheong" to the average Singaporean, they know it. But if you find a real gem that isn't one of those, you need to promote it to get people to visit.

To this day, I still can't read a map or use google maps, and mostly just rely on The Force to arrive at my destination. However, I do remember our cab ride, and can probably say with some certainty that from my hotel, we were headed in the direction Japan. That would be...ah....North?

I grilled a turkey burger and crunchified it with Thanksgiving potato chips.

Really glad to see them begin to reopen. My last trip to Singapore, I remember having some really good char siu at one of Hawker Centers; it was so good, I had two servings and just skipped the rice.

Do you happen to remember the name of the stall or the hawker center? Right now I don't think it would hurt to promote some of the better ones. Most of the stalls I've had there weren't great. I'm sure there are good ones, but most use too lean a cut to make a good piece of char siu.

Unfortunately, off the top of my head, I don't. A friend brought me there, but, if I recall, it was about 2 miles from Orchard Rd within a roofed complex with plenty of Hawker stands of many different varieties. I know, those instructions aren't great, but it's the best I can do right now. I think the stand was very famous, and it was incredibly good! It was perfect with the right amount of fat with many there just for the char siu.

I particularly enjoy those days where I have nothing on the agenda and free to roam aimlessly wherever it may take me. During one of these (mis)adventures, I somehow ended up somewhere in Chinatown in a specialty Cantonese duck restaurant on the second floor of some mall where I had one of the top 5 roast ducks in my entire life. A bad habit I should endeavor to correct is my utter thoughtlessness at times, and should have either taken a photo of the restaurant's name or take one of their business cards. |

Japanese food
Had some Japanese food with family members tonight.

Chicagoland for thanksgiving week
Chicken bean soup (homemade gift from a friend) chicken bahn mi from Bun Mee, Sfo T3 round tortilla chips |
Early dinner , ngoh hiang ( 5 spices ) brought by friends .. also mutton soup ( Chinese / Hainanese version ) to be enjoyed later . From a hawker centre towards the north .
The noodles were delicious and soft ( as they should be ) and those fritters were really crispy crunchy .. hit the spot ;) Quite a good selection chosen . Might have been more but forgot to ask , not sure what else was provided by the store . Probably homemade by the stall owners and not from some central kitchen , except the century egg . More chocolate cake & a macaron for dessert https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1688653ba.jpeg My initial plate with chilli & sweet egg white sauces on the side . Can ‘ t really see the egg whites here though https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2854e39b5.jpeg Spot the 2 strips of egg “ patty “ omelette . Added the liver rolls ( ngoh hiang ) https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...943f6236b.jpeg Pickled ginger for the century egg ( pei dtan ) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...756132d26.jpeg Hmm , enjoying .. what more was added ? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3b67161de.jpeg Added more yummy mee hoon ( thin rice noodles ) |

Sub the pickle relish for chopped dill pickles, and our recipe is the same! Sometimes I will add a pinch of Colemans dry mustard.

It's tough to find the actual varieties listed on menus, since they may change daily and go out of stock quickly. GT Fish and Oyster today lists:

Dinner tonight was osso bucco with risotto. Delicious, but probably a few more calories than either of us needed in anticipation of Thanksgiving. Mr. CE cooked. |
