T-bone on the grill and scalloped potatoes here.

Taco casserole, or basically tacos without shells. We included fresh jalapenos, which gave it an extra kick.

BBQ pork spareribs smoked at 225 for 4.5 hrs.-half glazed with bbq sauce, half dry, homemade potato salad, salad w/grape tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, cilantro, chives, lime juice. After years of experimenting, I have finally got BBQ ribs down pat, (if I do say so myself, lol)

Dinner last night at the Sainte George restaurant. Lovely place with very good service but not too impressed with the food. Mrs BV didn’t want much so had a side salad. I ordered a $19 burger that was served with every trendy cliche available in the kitchen: brioche bun, garlic aioli, chimichurri, micro greens, pickled red onion, etc. Ordered medium, received well done. The wine was nice although I couldn’t tell you what it was.

St Augustine has loads of wine bars. We started out in one across the street from the restaurant, Bin 39. Pleasant spot. Again, I couldn’t tell you what we had but it was delicious.

Todays plan is to choose a casual place on the beach for seafood.

omg how did you eat the cardboard?? Next time send it back.
$19 is pretty standard in my area. Except I get my cow medium rare. Only my child gets it… sigh. Medium.

Last night, dinner at Gaijin with another couple. It's a Paul Virant restaurant (for those who've heard of him) specializing in okonomiyaki.
Started out with pickled vegetables, short ribs, and bok choy. Each couple the split a pancake. We had Osaka style octopus with an egg on top. The other one was some kind of gluten free version, not sure what was in it. Mochi donuts for dessert. Lots of Suntory whiskey.

Totally my kind of food, I loved it. My wife liked the pancake and short rib, but nothing else. We'll probably choose Momotaro's basement yakitori bar over Gaijin, but it was still fun.

Probably my all time favorite dish. I suppose, if I had to make one of those last meal requests, it would be Peking duck. Admittedly, I prefer the bun over the tortilla crepe thing.

Blackened triggerfish sandwich - Beachcombers - St Augustine Beach. Came with condiment size cole slaw. Also too much Mondavi Cabernet. Fun just to hang out at the beach.

Mmmmmm. Triggers used to be relatively rare in the waters up here. They were a fish caught as by catch, when targeting something else. Over the past 2 years, we have had an influx of them, thanks to warmer waters. (Thanks global warming). In fact, I know Captains that now target them.
Prepared properly, (and yours looks to be expertly prepared), they are delicious.

I had never run into it living on the gulf side. This is my second time eating it over on the Atlantic side. I think I tried it sometime this spring in Cocoa Beach. Last time it was fried. It was fine but I like blackened/grilled better. I understand frying because it seems pretty delicate. This may have been a thicker filet.

StuckInYYZ Nov 4, 2021 7:51 pm

Some whole wheat naan and hummus.

gaobest Nov 4, 2021 10:54 pm

I had spring sfybl (PONY) zoom meeting so my spouse ordered DoorDash from Indian clay oven for supper. Yum! I wouldn’t have considered it.

kashmiri naan (cherry / raisin / almond)
Hydrabadi lamb (with fruit & potato straws)
chana masala
lentils (dal)
butter chicken
rice

good and all was mild. Supposedly the lamb was medium and it didn’t feel spicy. I love too much spice.

Ok, you know I haven't rubbed the sleep out of my eyes when I read that as "chinese grits and smoked sausage casserole..." then spent a few minutes wondering what are chinese grits? (even after multiple re-reads)

Not sure if there's anything to being influenced by others, but you have me thinking about having some corn flakes with that new Fairlife milk thing I'm trying. Growing up, I used to love Tony the Tiger cornflakes, especially how at the end the milk would be so sweet!

As a child, I also enjoyed the super sweet milk after having my Tony the Tiger cornflakes!
But now, I prefer little or no sweetness! Perhaps I should give that Fairlife a try... if I can buy it in Canadia.

I thought we could buy Fairlife. I see ads for it on youtube. I'm pretty sure I saw it on the shelf at SDM.

Bought some short-dated stewing beef the other day and wanted to make something other than goulash which I've probably made between - veal and beef - close to half dozen times this year. Found a recipe for a once-vulgar ;) dish, brown beef stew with dumplings. Don't think I've seen this offered in any place in the U.K. for 30-40 years (maybe in the frozen section of a supermarket), and it's surprisingly rather obscure even where I am, in the past let alone current day.

Funny, I made a beef stew last weekend. All of us loved the end result, so I can recommend this recipe.https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/...oned-beef-stew

I had a frozen pepperoni pizza from WH in the freezer. I doctored up with goat cheese and fresh basil. Instead of the oven, I did it on the grill. Then I topped it with honey & pepperoncini. Not bad for store bought frozen pizza.

Lacks the suet dumplings which makes the stew (and what makes the stew vulgar) though yours will probably make a richer version. Have never seen proper suet (supposedly fat from around lamb kidneys) so I had to use frozen lard instead. Didn't have enough beef drippings in the fridge (it's saved for Yorkshire pudding).

Next batch of stew meat will go into a steak and mushroom pie (never acquired the taste for kidneys).

Not sure if I can make the pastry like this though
