We are continuing to break in our new Treasure Truck purchase from last month. Our Charbroil BBQ. A simple 2 burner, but it’s a nice unit and works quite well.

Home-made pizza tonight but that's not the highlight.
Highlight is dessert. Fresh home-grown pineapple harvested this morning. |

Takes 3 years for a rooted head to fruit or so I hear (certainly took that long for this plant, and the one I first grew a decade ago). Leaves turn yellow? Not a good sign. Healthy plant, the leaves take a year or two to die, and always from the bottom. Outside? Too cold perhaps?
The mother plant grew in my neighbors garden next door. |
Try epsom salts. Too dry, too wet? Supposedly likes well drained. Maybe make the soil a bit more acidic (e.g., coffee grounds)

https://homeguides.sfgate.com/mean-p...low-90728.html Try letting the soil dry out a bit. Not the same, but aloe is very susceptible to over watering. I try to keep the soil lightly packed and damp but it's a delicate process. Hopefully it isn't as painful for you. |
Dinner tonight was mutton kuthu roti that I bought and then added some extra egg while heating up. One of these days I'll make it myself... But it's hard to make flaky roti...

Last night I attempted cacio e pepe, a classic Roman pasta. It...wasn't good. I basically ignored the proportions in the recipe. It turns out a litttttle pepper goes a long way, and I needed a lot more of the starchy pasta water to make a coherent sauce, even though I used a lot of pecorino.
But at least now i know what to do differently next time. |

Tonight: pork stew and biscuits (and local corn)
I just googled to find a recipe, having never attempted this before. It’s basically a beef stew but with sweet potatoes, canned diced tomatoes, sliced mushrooms and green beans along with carrots and onions. Seasonings will be fresh thyme and Italian oregano from the herb garden. Normally I make stew in the crock pot but total cooking time is under 2 hours so I will keep it in the Dutch oven I use to brown the meat. I am using pork tenderloins even though all the recipes call for a fattier cut. Hopefully that won’t matter. The vegetable cart showed up across from the clubhouse this morning. They featured, among other things, early Florida corn. The ears are small but I was told it’s sweet. |

Taco hodge-podge tonight. Going out of town on Friday so we're cleaning out leftovers - small pieces of sirloin, roast turkey breast, tomatoes, an avocado, a couple limes, rice mixed with sautéed spinach, cilantro, etc. I have faith it will all come together as two nice two-taco dinner plates :).

for dinner... a large bowl of corn flakes, lentil soup... and a banana
|
Pasta with grape tomatoes, kale and garlic, bathed in olive oil and doused with ungodly amounts of parmesan.
I haven't cooked for ages due largely to stress from my job situation, but last night I finally decided that was ridiculous. It was very cathartic, and now I'll be eating the rest of this for the next three days, I'm sure. I made rather a lot. |
