Gotta admit, you guys down under really have a natural affinity for perfecting grilled meats! Assuming that I'd ever be free to roam HKG again, as I've always told traveling companions new to the airport interesting in a good meats offering, dropping by the QF lounge immediately upon entry is standard practice.

Funnily enough, Neil Perry, the restauranteur who designs the QF inflight and lounge dining, just opened a new restaurant which I had lunch at a few weeks ago and the menu is pretty much all about grilling.

Panko-crusted air fried cod for fish tacos with corn tortillas, cabbage, crema, avocados, salsa and limes.

Yesterday's dinner was a lot of fun -- friends had us over for a fondue night. Both cheese and oil (with beef and chicken) plus a lot of veggies. It was delicious!

yes - although not all of the ones in the photo.

Costco has a nice Christmas cookie platter. 5 different varieties. I really enjoyed 3 of them, and 2 were ok, $9.99 for 42. The green and dark brown with frosting were just my ok ratings.

We attended the community tree lighting last night. It was followed by cookies and drinks. We went home for dinner instead. Leftover stew and jambalaya with turnip greens.

Dinner with my favorite sister at Stripsteak in the Mandalay Bay.

Apertif was Louis Roederer Rose, and a bottle of Chateau Haut-Brion 1990 with the steak. We had instant bacon (fancy word for slice of fatty pork), Ribeye Tomahawk, lobster tail, grilled foie gras, creamed spinach and truffle mac & cheese. We both passed on desserts and digestifs.

All comped.

are these comps based on 4 hours of play per day? Eg you play 4 hours a day and then receive the meal comp per day.

Ah, I can't speak for anyone else, but my relationship with this particular host dates back to at or around 2004 - 2005, and, because of that, have built up quite a bit of credit with her. The 4 hours I referenced is the guideline I use as it was relayed to me many years ago without adjusting for market cycles or inflation, and, which I still, more or less, use it to this day.

There's also a several other factors that may play a role here, as follows: 1) year over year, I've always met or exceeded our gentleman's agreement on coins in/out; 2) during the course of ordinary business when I've entertained guests in LV, I've introduced clients to her, some of whom have no doubt become "whales"; and, 3) during prior years, I've routinely invited guests to accompany me to use the comps earned, since I really don't consume that much when by myself. So this year, because of the pandemic and limited guest activity, I'm way ahead on the loan thing, and I'm just trying to burn it up before everything theoretically resets in 2022.

Finally, my sister had some time, and, unlike me, she's actually culinarily very sophisticated, refined and knows her stuff; so, I thought she might enjoy some spa treatments and a nice dinner or two with some good wine. While nothing is certain, I'm confident that, at least for now, I can more or less within reason get anything comped that I wish.

Eric’s Chinese carryout - church street by 28th or Duncan

Veggie moo shoo with 4 extra pancakes

Eric’s cakes with peanut sauce
2/ Veggie egg rolls

Mongolian beef
Shanghai chicken
Beijing noodle soup

2 / white rice

I haven’t had Chinese carryout in weeks - we had Eric’s on 10/24 and friends brought Chinese carryout on 11/5 (Shabbat). Yum! My spouse and I have both enjoyed this one Eric’s restaurant for years before we met. I used to enjoy getting mega wasted with friends who lived half a block away so I really have fond memories when I pass the house where they lived!

Yeah, the last time I had it was in Shanghai. I'm not even sure if they still offer it in CA, or if it's banned, kind of like how foie gras had been.

Personally I don't, but I just make a dish or two at a time unless I know I'm having guests (which hasn't been for a long time). I know in Singapore, you sweat it all out in a few hours if you don't have air conditioning (one time I went to an ex-colleague's office... maybe a 20 minute walk from the MRT station... by the time I got there, I had to change out of my shirt as it was drenched (luckily I was prepared for that). Literally I could sweat out a liter of water in a day there.

Due to the pandemic, I've actually lost weight. Hoping to keep the trend going (safely)

Are the snowflakes for decor or consumption? They look like wood pieces.

Well some of the multi course meals are tiny portions but I agree...there is a LOT of food sometimes. That kind of meal would maybe be once or twice a year if that. What gets me is the amount of sugar some people eat.
A friend gave me some home made chicken salad that is really good (apples, raisins, almonds etc) and I had some Hawaiian rolls in the freezer so dinner for me was 2 chicken salad sandwiches (those rolls are very small) & it was delicious.

Agreed here as well. What gets me are the desserts. Admittedly, I don’t really have a sweet tooth. Plus, I’m horrible at baking. However, I see posters that are eating these huge desserts with every meal. Personally, I don’t know how they do it.

The snowflakes ( have 3 , other coasters & 2 lamps which might have been in photos with Advent Tea calendar post ) are wood by an artisan in his 70s , gaobest . He is rather talented and carved a canoe too , besides Japanese screens . Repairs antique clocks , record players and such . Amazing but somewhat cluttered workshop .

Yes , the humidity in Singapore is something else , was baking the past few days & wondered what happened to the NE Monsoon .. supposed to be cooler dropped to 21 C 😉 😂 briefly last year or perhaps in January . Then it thunderstormed & poured in the afternoon till evening . The poinsettias , etc are relieved too . Good thing it was not too heavy driving to dinner .

Losing weight too , 😊 , despite eating with a vengeance “ around the world “ while not having to use the passport .
This month , like now , was supposed to be inflight to SEA & YVR and / or potentially SFO after the Munich CHRISTmas markets were cancelled - just think no forest mushrooms , mulled wine - missing all those other CHRISTmas goodies and the cool .

So after skipping lunch , returned to Table at 7 , second time in 5 days . They serve Asian Indonesian cuisine and modern European fare .
Went the whole hog & had the CHRISTmas dinner set ( plus more ;) ) . You get the drift from the photos ..

A college friend was in town last night and getting a reservation on short notice for a group meant there were slim pickings but we managed to snag a table at Shaw's. ( I don't think any of us had been there in 20 years.) I had a really good chopped seafood salad, and just finished the leftovers for lunch.

I find the heat and humidity just suppresses appetite in general so I just generally ingest less. Maybe never spend enough time in some place that warm and humid to get acclimatized. I had a conversation with a Malay Singaporean who moved to somewhere with a climate similar to YYZ except it's generally arid in summer rather than humid (YYZ can be worse than SE Asia it he summer for that). He told me that on his visits to Singapore, he couldn't get used to the heat or humidity either.

For me, probably try to limit diner to a 6 - 8 ounce piece of wild salmon. Regarding the weight thing, during my younger days, I could eat anything under the sun, and it wouldn't have mattered one bit. Alas, those days have gone, and likely will never return.

So, need to eat light and hangout with those cardio vixens at the gym the next couple of weeks to pay for my Vegas gorge.

Sure hope not that , think nothing reported at last check up a couple of months back .
Quite amazed myself , pleased & 🙌🏻 actually .. think it is the swimming twice daily .. think posted a lot last year too by poolside “ tea “ when we were stuck at home last year . Spent about the whole day in the pool then doing laps . No dining out permitted at times this year too !

So likely continue to perhaps skip a meal .. like drag out breakfast so no lunch is needed & light dinner .
For instance , blueberry muffin & pain au chocolate for breakfast yesterday but with numerous interruptions , only finished the chocolate croissant at 2 pm ! Sort of became lunch ..

Enjoy wild salmon too , do not ‘ partake ‘ the farmed ones .

Tonight is possibly 190 at FS or Lino , depends if their is availability - perhaps same back up table 190 we were using for this year ‘ SIN DO ;)
