How did you grill the shrimp? Skewers? Marinaded first, or while grilling?

Baked halibut with lemon (Gabriel had hers without the lemon). Stir fry vegetables. Sauce was low sodium Tamari, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, and some deli mustard.

Yes...I took a little of the pesto and marinated the shrimp in it but only for about a half hour. Then grilled on a gas grill being very careful not to send any overboard like I usually do. I am not a fan of skewers so I just put them directly on the oiled grates. Then I put more of the pesto on them when I took them off as well as in the rice. Very yummy!

What a nice healthy dinner. Halibut looks perfect. I think Gabriel wants seconds...

They thought she was a boy until she was about 5 months old and they realized she didn’t have any cotton balls.

It seems that Gabriella would have been a good non-cotton ball name.

Beautiful cat. I love cat pictures.

saturday pm socially distant pool visit in Menlo Park. We fetched hummus nearby as our host endorsed that place and he’s a good home chef (I verbally exclaimed that he’s my cooking inspiration and even cited their glass Sodastream bottles, but I was partly untruthful).

spicy chicken shawarma
lamb gyro
hummus
tzatziki sauce
pita (they use the Jerusalem brand that I buy at Gus’s Market! Woah)

corky Aug 9, 2020 9:33 pm

Same thing as last night but this time I took a pic.

Had some Shoulder Blade Pork Chops in the freezer from 2 weeks ago. Took them out around 2 pm, thawed by 6 pm. Used the Air Fryer to cook them as an experiment with just simple kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. It took longer than broiling them (my usual method) and they came out more well done than I usually like it, but the flavor was great. My side was Knorr's Mushroom rice. Overall, a good dinner, but will return to broiling them in the future.

Buffalo chicken with a ranch glaze, topped with cheese, seasonal veggies, and because I'm trying to get rid of some stuff in the freezer, McCain Smiles.

I don't know what those McCain smiles are but I want one.

They are like half-fries, half-mashed potatoes. The outside is like a french fry, the inside is like mashed potatoes. They were inexpensive, so I bought two bags. A serving is 5 "smiles" so I'm slowly working my way through the bags.

Now I want one (or 5) even more!

These are similar to Indonesia perkedels, except for no smilie faces. They even sell them at KFC here. No corn on the cob or chicken pot pies, but great spicy fried chicken.

You can break a donut down to quarters? lol--not me! I am not sure I could even save a half for later. None of those are on my donut list though. Glazed buttermilk is my go to. omg--I want one right now.

my quesabirria-style taco luncheon was quite big - primarily the carrot / potato part as there was only 1 short rib.

these were my first donuts SINCE MARCH. 5 months without donuts. We had some leftover last night. I will probably dispose of what’s left later tonight.

I hope you didn't go to all the trouble of making that birria sauce (which I imagine freezes well so make double next time) for just one short rib.
donuts make great bread pudding. you can even throw the leftovers in the freezer and save them up until you have enough.
you made both turkey burgers and beef burgers?? Why?
And congrats on having some veggies.

lhrsfo Aug 12, 2020 10:03 am

On the beach tonight, so red wine, sausages, hot soup, crudites and melon. Rather than ketchup, we're going with a Tom Kine tomato based sauce.

The “birria” (because obviously it’s my way and not like a real mexican restaurant style) was used for total 4 short ribs (1-1/2 lbs??) and then eaten over a period of days.
thanks for donut tip. Maybe I’ll try it... I could (literally?) squeeze them into the freezer.
as we all know, turkey burgers are less unhealthy than beef burgers :-)

Yes, depending on whether turkey breast or dark meat is used there can be less fat than beef. Will your kid not eat a turkey burger? Would he know the difference once you put all of that cheese on it?

I assume “ground turkey” is more dark than light but it’s still better (healthier) than both chicken and cow.
we all know the taste difference between turkey and cow meat, even with bunny bun and cheese. I’m not putting lipstick on a pig. Only a sight-challenged person without taste buds wouldn’t know the difference.

I’m just not much of a wino. Nice cold water, fresh fruit juice, or an iced tea on occasion will suffice.

corky Aug 12, 2020 9:19 pm

I love those! And they look pretty easy.

gaobest Aug 13, 2020 12:26 am

Poached salmon with dill sauce & lemon wedges
baked potatoes
roasted carrot / zucchini / squash (spices - paprika, turmeric, cinnamon)

desserts:
butterscotch blondies
chocolate chip cookies

note - the bunny buns are what I refer to the roll-ppang

From the same meal, you list bunny buns, and roll-ppang buns. So, obviously you’re up to something nefarious with the Bunny Buns.

AHS 2020: Bunny Buns!
