I've got to ask. Define hot ones. I've bought shishito peppers on multiple occasions and have never found hot ones. They've always given a "pepperish" taste but nothing beyond that. I've resorted to just buying the spicy wrinkly ones that I find at chinese supermarkets. Those are better. Usually break them into two batches, one set I pickle, the other set I toss into stir fry.

Hot to me means I need to find some dairy, stat. I ate some cheese (i dont have milk ever) and that did the trick. I am probably less heat tolerant than many. I love these for the flavor .

There is nothing wrong with not being able to take spicy foods. I'm not sure I understand how spicy those peppers might be, but I suspect my tolerance is likely higher than yours then. I was just confused as I have never found shishitos spicy. Then again, I don't find milk helps deal with the spicy stuff either. If I start hitting stuff that I can't handle (eg, ghost or carolina reaper), I usually go for pop/soda (whatever you want to call it). That said, When they came up with the scoville scale, they used sugar water as the weapon of choice to calm the spiciness down.
Interesting. Shishitos are small, mild peppers from Japan. Their flavor is sweet and slightly smokey, not spicy—but careful! One in ten shishito peppers will be hot.Aug 13, 2019 Normally I don't get a hot one but this batch had about 3. Soda to me sounds like it would work like water does which is just to spread the heat around your mouth and not tame it. Bread would work too. |

Everyone can make cocktails at home with ingredients from 3 grocery stores and free online videos of recipe guidance. I ordered a draft MODELO NEGRO - a black modelo. You may want to try windowpane flounder. They taste very similar to sand dabs...in my opinion. There isn’t a fishery for them here on the east coast, all specimens are by catch...when targeting winter or summer flounder. From what I’ve read, they are also caught in the Gulf...so good luck!

Get yourself a growler and take it to your local brewery. In Alabama and Florida there are taps at some liquor stores for growler refills. I enjoyed my sand dabs - they were specific Monterey sand dabs. It means a lot that you like them!! Tells me that I made a greater choice than realized. It’s like when I found out that Jaimito loves robbins cherries jubilee ice cream. |
