This is an absolute winner! I made it tonight and it was gorgeous to look at and even better to eat. Delicious. And I am not normally a fan of deep dish pizza. I have never really liked it and much prefer Napoletana style. But this was awesome and I will definitely make it again.

Gorgeous recipe - I will probably make it albeit “Detroit” style again on Monday.

Aren't tomatoes a fruit because they have seeds?

yes as are avocados et al. Nice on the tomato plants :-)

yummy - are you eating the mango with the steak? I always think of mango as a separate dish.

The mango with sticky rice was a dessert.

Yep...sometimes it strikes me as funny (silently, of course, don't need to make it obvious I'm a food nerd) when people say they had a salad full of vegetables and lettuce is truly the only vegetable in it. Tomato, avocado, cucumber, peppers, olives, zucchini, etc. We usually at least try to get some onion into ours :D.

I love mango with sticky rice. Do you do it with the mung beans?

I don’t think so. Just mango, sticky rice, and a little sweet sauce of some sort.

Tomatoes are fruits (seeds) and vegetables (savory) in my book! Remember that I have four tomato plants, though right now the Super Sweet 100s are my favorites. The first to ripen, on the smaller side for cherry tomatoes (my preference) and almost taste like candy. I could see myself planting multiple of these next year.

What’s the difference of Detroit style? Other than the shape, which kind of defeats the point of cooking it in a cast iron skillet?

There's a place here in Chicago that makes Detroit style, and I almost describe it as school cafeteria pizza. About an inch thick and doughy. I can't say what certainly how representative that is, but that's my take.

So are cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, beans, peas, okra, corn and more.

As my nephew used to say, "You mean!" :p

Actually, this pizza definitely is doughy but the crisp, caramelized edges are a nice contrast and it's very flavorful and the layer of cheese directly on top of the crust keeps it from getting soggy.

It's because of how the tomato grows out of the flower and contains a seed. All plants have seeds...

I think almost all pizzas are great when fresh from an oven, even better than HQ delivery.

I use a baking square for my Detroit pizza so it isn’t cast iron. Maybe I should try the cast iron skillet as it’s small so the dough ball should fit. I’m not yet making my own pizza dough. I buy multigrain frozen dough balls. $1.99
