Presented with half a dozen of 1980 Chateau Leovilles-las Cases many years ago, it's clearly not the best vintage of any Bordeaux, but still gave us pleasure many times.
This morning found a misplaced last bottle, carefully placed it in the kitchen; opened and decanted it very carefullythis afternoon, and we enjoyed with grilled fillet of lamb with pommes dauphinoix.
Definitely over the top, but surprisingly not too much. Although a weak vintage, the wine showed it's strong heritage and was a good entrance to a good wine week-end
Pudding & Port's next...

Years ago I found a case or so of 1980 Certan de May at auction that was still alive and well...one critic had noted that it tasted like "some of the 79 had been mixed in". I find old styled off-vintage Bordeaux quite delightful (I recently came across some 67s that are still alive and pleasurable).

Tonight we'll be drinking:
2012 Donkey and Goat Isabel's Cuvee Grenache Rose, Mendocino, followed by
2010 Lindaflor Petite Fleur, Mendoza
(Ironic, that the location of the California wine translates to "of/from Mendoza" )
