Great day of food up in New York.
Lunch: Beer and pork belly sliders with fried egg and french fries at the Dead Rabbits Tavern Dinner: Calamari, squid, Greek salad, bread, pita with dips and baby lamb and orzo plus various wines at Itzaka on the upper east side. |
Amazing meal at "Cafe Istanbul" in Columbus, Ohio. Absolutely amazing.
Falafel for the Appetizer. Yum. Perfectly done. Great Tahini sauce. Wonderful "Cafe Istanbul" Salad. Iceberg lettuce with toasted almonds, dried apricots, cranberries, tomatoes and honey mustard dressing. Double Yum. Main course was absolutely out of this world. Ribeye Steak Kebabs. Unbelievable tender and oh so juicy cubes of Ribeye marinated in their special house sauce that were obviously chargrilled over open flame. Served with Jasmine rice that was so sublime it almost killed me. Then I finished it off with the best Rice Pudding I have ever had. All washed down with some amazing Turkish beer. YIKES. Truly one of the best meals I have EVER had. Go figure. IN COLUMBUS, OHIO? I have not had food that tasty in Istanbul. IF you are EVER in Columbus, stop in and enjoy. The Lamb is also superb. I sampled my business partner's dish. Wow. What a hidden gem this place is. The gods on Mount Olympus, when they get hungry, they pop over to this place to eat. -Robbie |

Today ... again the cashews have emigrated from Singapore as highlighted a few moments ago in NutCam. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...54627C07_1.jpg ..... and we aren't always native in Singapore. Today's lunch in our little garden. :) http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...93BE7751_1.jpg |
Local home cured ham with cheesy twice baked potatoes and beans. Simple but very tasty.

That is a perfect meal ... except for the strongly felt omission of a big dollop of Branstons. I think that ramekin originally had something in it. We have many. It might mean we have eaten the same thing at some point and kept the ramekins.
Those potatoes look like you scooped them out of the skins, remashed and recalibrated re stuffed and rebaked. I am so missing home. Send me some. :) |
Never thought about Branstons but you are right, I shall adjust accordingly next time. Yes, baked the spuds, scooped out the flesh and mixed with strong Welsh cheddar, butter, spring onions and salt & pepper before refilling the skins and baking at 180c for 30-35 minutes. Her indoors won't have baked spuds when out and about anymore because she is always disappointed. Sad really, as they are so easy to do.
