indianwells, which part(s) of the world did the avocados come from?

In NY, I usually see Chile or Mexico, but am curious about the other side of the pond.

Picked up a pizza from Pomadoro in Durham today and my Dad and I split it for lunch. Half cheese for me, half mushroom (yech) for him.

If my memory serves me there was a little Mexican flag sticker I had to remove from them.

Inspired by frequent contributor (and pea eater and Rioja drinker :) ) uk1, I made my own bagels today. I ended up with a batch of eight--four garlic, four sesame. They came out pretty well--good use of a rainy afternoon.

No pix, sorry! They're almost gone now, too....next time. (I had help.)

I didn't boil them in malted water, but did boil them. The recipe I had called for using a small amount of sugar. Since you asked, I looked up "malted water"--I can get some barley malt and try that next time, too. There are enough home brewers around here that I should be able to find it without difficulty. The sugar is clearly meant to accomplish some of the same things, although it requires longer boiling and does not darken them at all.

Hope your trip back home is pleasant!

Thanks ... yes back home ... but 14 hours even at the pointy end isn't fun.

The bagels should only be boiled for a minute or so .....
