Having grown up in a heavily Italian-American town on the Jersey shore (no, I am not Snooki!), I feel that I was raised on the best pizza in the world. Chain pizza might as well be a Stouffer's frozen French bread pizza in my opinion. Yuck.

Costco still has the best 'Americanized' flat-crust style pizza around. Blows Dominos and Papa Johns out of the water.
Of course nothing can compare to a freshly made, true Italian style thin-crust pie with fresh herbs, vegetables, and a blend of cheeses.....or diving into a platter of Chicago deep-dish.

I had a slice last week...I thought it was better than before, but I love garlic. The new stuff is very garlicky. A bit over-the-top for most people, I imagine.
It hardly makes sense to compare Domino's to a good local pizzeria. This is college pizza we're talking about here. Comparing it to a good local artisan - regardless of whether they specialize in thin or thick crust - is like comparing Miller Lite to your favorite microbrew. It's almost like two completely different product segments.

pinniped is right. Comparing national chain delivery pizza to real Italian (or even Italian-American) pizza is like comparing hamburger to a steak. It's a different product.

I liked it better than the old version, but I did not find the old version to be that bad...for what it is. Like almost everyone else, I find the major chain pizzas to be a distant shadow of what I think of as an artisan pizza from a local parlour.

It tasted OK, but was a real turn-off. My hands were tainted orange afterwards.

The new Dominos is an improvement, but still far from being equal to privately held pizzerias. If you order a pizza with provolone as a topping, it starts to approach tolerable.

The pizza in both places is excellent and, along with that found in South Philly, the best in the United States.
But in the world? No way. For that, you have to go to a good family-owned pizzaria in North Italy (preferably Verona).

I still prefer Papa John's, but the margin is MUCH thinner than it used to be.
Good job, Dominos!
