Ghent, WV? Middle of nowhere, WV! I was in Ghent for a day almost 20 years ago.

When a friend of mine mentioned a brewery in Ghent, much less a good brewery in Ghent, I was a bit taken aback. It has only been in the past few years that you could even find a bar that had something more exotic than Sam Adams in that area. I've been to Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co. a few times (right across the street from Smooth Ambler distillery, which is itself a great place), and their beer is just so-so... certainly not something I bring back cans from for beer shares. But it was a pretty serious beer nerd who recommended Weathered Ground and says it's one of the best two in the state. He's a ski junkie, so I'm sure he discovered them through going to Winterplace nearby.

Now I just want COVID to go away so I can actually visit my parents again (they're about 40 minutes from Ghent)...

I'm glad I'm not the only one a little taken aback by a good brewery in Ghent. :D

When you do visit, let me know if it is good, because if it is, I'll probably try to get there.

From Imprint Beer Co.:
  • Little Green Bag (very delicious)
  • My Morning Juice (tastes very much like orange juice)

Wait a minute; where is some Bissell Brothers in that mix?!

Had a share tonight where we discussed the 50 state challenge. One of the guys said he may have some MS beer to bring next time, but AR is still the big stopper.

:) Bissell Brothers next time, maybe. That depends on my Maine connection being willing to do this again. :D

Arkansas is the big challenge for most. I'm in a beer trade group, and someone was looking for some rare beer and posted, "I can provide beer from Arkansas!"

Substance is good but I always forget about Bissell. They are out on Thompson's Point not near anything.

Got my latest batch in from Other Half - 24 cans of various double and triple IPAs. Ones tried tonight are their latest collaboration with Trillium up in Boston (Can't See Me), Cream of Broccoli (a lactose-brewed version of Broccoli), and More Citra Than All Citra (triple IPA loaded on Citra hops). All delicious as always.

Lone Pine Portland Pale Ale. It's a very nice pale ale after a very hot day!

Did a pilsner blind tasting a few days ago: Trumer Pils, Firestone Walker Pivo Pils, Wiseacre Tiny Bomb, Oskar Blue Mama's Yella Pils, Maplewood Pulaski Pils, Weihenstephaner Pilsner, Pipeworks Premium Pilsner, and Rothaus Pils.Wiseacre Tiny Bomb was #1 for me and my husband, as well as the judging panel from The Beer Temple, the beer store that put the blind tasting together.

Austin Street Patina Pale Ale. If I was able to get this regularly, I could see it being my go-to beer.

That's a nice lineup.

I'm not a huge pilsner fan, but I really like Hill Farmstead Mary and Schilling's Alexandr. They're both worth a try if you get the chance.
