The SoCal 'California dreaming' eve had a triplet of tasty brews.
First act was Lagunitas Maximum, a reliable companion when world is at a threat. The second act was Ballast Point Habanero Sculpin, to which I seem to have got accustomed, the last bottles seems just having an interesting chili hint, compared to my first, which I (a lover of chili) though was just a little too much. Final act, with some encores, was Big Fifty Pale Ale, from Blessed Brewing. A great combo of different styles. |

One of our local restaurants is offering a crowler sale tomorrow. They range in price from $5 to $10, with a limit of 6/person. We have our 6 selected and I'll call to order, then Mr. Kipper will pick up.

Haymarket is selling growlers of beer for $8 (including new growler as IL Craft Brewers Guild advises against refilling right now) so we picked up a Dunkel and cherry wheat) and picked up the MacBook from Off Color while out. All are fantastic. |
Yesterday's 'Dark Night', was aimed at the impressive Tampa brewery Cigar City Brewing, and mainly to their Imperial Stouts.
As an amuse bouche, a glass of Florida Man Double IPA was served, just to tease the guests for something more heavy, darker, and ready to be cut in pieces with a sharp knife... Then, almost like a blind wine tasting, we were served three anonymous glasses of the following CCB Imperial Stouts: Imperial Milk Porter, Caffe Americano and Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout In this comparison, some re-starts were needed to give the racers a fair run. Turned out to become a draw between my favourite, Marshal Zhukov and the Imperial Milk Porter. Caffe Americano, the runner-up, was also given an honorable distinction for adding a non-dominating flavour improvement. After that decision, being close to unanimous, we all celebrated with a glass, or three, of the runner-up brew. |
How was the Florida Man?

A full hoppy taste with fruity overtones. Distinct, but not too dominating, bitterness and hints of orange-ish preserve. Definitely a DIPA to meet again. |
No beer I can drink in the house on National Beer Day...everything I have is for aging. Will have to make up for it tomorrow :)

But in honor, I bought a suitcase of Coors Banquet, a beer I once drove 1,500 miles to purchase. This time, only 5 miles. |
Last night's crowlers were New Trail Lazy River Pils and Great Lakes Eliot Ness.

I was able to acquire the last 4-pack of Innis & Gunn from my local liquor store.

We broke into the Game of Thrones beers by Ommegang that I received from my FT Secret Santa this year.
We enjoyed Winter Is Here and Fire & Blood. Take the Black will wait until tomorrow night when I don't have to work the following day! |
