Pseudo Sue from Toppling Goliath. My daughter played a lacrosse tournament in Des Moines and I used the occasion to hit up the HyVee to get a couple four-packs. It doesn't get widely distributed down here in KC yet, although it's beginning to hit a few of the craft beer bars in the area on tap.

And the HyVee downtown turns out to be a decent place to hang out. |
Watching game 7 last night, I could only get through one beer (Summer Shandy), and that was in the first period.

We were in Des Moines for a beer festival last year and I'm impressed with the beer scene. I think my favorite brewery was Exile but Peace Tree has the best logo and t-shirts. Next lacrosse tourney, stop by El Bait Shop with something like 300 taps. Plan on staying a while. Also stop by Zombie Burger. BamaVol Jr #2 is a chef there.

So, if I happen to be passing through Des Moines soon, I should plan on stopping by for lunch or dinner?
Zombie Burger is where all the celebrities dine. I'll let him know you're famous on FlyerTalk. |

I had a couple Stone Revengeful Spirits before heading out to a sushi bar last night. Very tropical tasting. The 8.1% alcohol wasn't immediately obvious...

BamaVol Jr #1 sent me 5 cans of beer from Oregon for Fathers Day. Hazy Domination from Ninkasi Bubble Stash IPA from Hop Valley Hot Break sour ale from Little Beast Brewing Hippy Haze from Wild Ride Brewing Batsquatch IPA FROM Rogue There was a sixth but the can ruptured in transit. |
The plant manager’s brother in Mississippi is in some sort of beer exchange. He sent some my way this weekend, all from Iowa - one of my favorite beer states. Hopsmack! DIPA from Toppling Goliath Other Buddy pale ale from Pulpit Rock Pour Over Coffee Porter from Pulpit Rock All brewed in Decorah, IA There was a fourth, but I gave it back because it was a milk stout. I cannot tolerate lactose. |

I would have to sit as well, on the toilet. |
Bissell Brothers (Portland, ME) appears to be distributing beer now - was able to grab some of The Substance (their outstanding house New England IPA) from a local beer store in Manhattan. ^^

I bought a Sam Adams 24-pack at Costco for a part this weekend. Miracle of miracles: no IPAs!
* Sam '76 * Summer Ale * Porch Rocker * Boston Lager |
Decided to dig deep on this one - I grabbed a rare beer that was part of a series my wife had bought for me 5 years ago and aged it until today. It's called 'Long of Tooth', a collaboration between De Proefbrouwerij in Belgium and Surly Brewing Co. in Minneapolis. It's an English old ale crossed with a chocolate stout, and it tastes (and looks) great after 5 years in the fridge. Pretty excited to see how all my old stouts turn out down the road that I've got sitting in the fridge :)
