I visited my parents at home last week and enjoyed some excellent brew. Among my favorites were the Gordon Biersch Summer Brew and a Harpoon IPA.

I also tried something I've never had, a Brew Dog Storm. A beer brewed in scotch barrels. It's very strong and like nothing I've ever had before, anyone else had it?

My last bottle of homebrew. Always sad to see the last one go.

I went to the Harpoon Brewery Store last week and picked up three of the Leviathan (small batch, big beer) series:

-Imperial Red
-Big Bohemian Pilsener
-Imperial IPA

Also grabbed a 750 mL of the 100 Barrel Series Pott's Landbier, a mashup with the Potts Brauerei in Germany. All top notch.

Others rounding out the summer edition beer fridge:

-Harpoon IPA cans
-Simpler Times Lager
-750 mL of Port Brewing Co. Wipeout IPA
-750 mL of Wachusett Brewing LARRY Imperial IPA

Received an email for a beer tasting, held for an area charity, listing breweries participating, including PBR...:confused:

Well, how long's it been? Honestly, I don't recall ever trying one, but Miss BamaVol and her husband will buy it from time time. I suppose it's unfair to condemn it without taking a sip.

Of course, maybe that's the brand X to make all the others appear better than they are.

Not sure if this counts... but I've been drinking almost nothing but cider since the beginning of summer.

A pint glass filled to the brim with ice and then filled with cider makes for an excellent summer thirst-quencher.

When I was in Bermuda a couple of weeks ago, I had Magner's Pear. It was delish.

My vote says Yes to cider.

My fridge right now:
Recently bought 4 packs, of which most still remain:
Shipyard XXXX IPA
Thomas Hooker Liberator Doppelbock - never heard of this brewery before, but they had a ratebeer.com shelf tag on it at the store so gave it a try. Excellent stuff if you like the style.
Sam Adams Double Bock

Just finished off the last of my Augustiner Helles, Dunkels & Weissbier. A few Paulaner, Leffe, Sierra Nevada & assorted Anchor Steam remain.

Time to restock.

Widmer Sunburn
Deschutes Twilight
Ninkasi Double Red Ale (my new favorite)

Sure wish I was going to the Oregon Brewers Festival next week :(

They must know you there. I know a bar in Virginia that sells that particular beer for $25 per bottle but only if you're a regular or a regular will vouch for you.

After all, the beer is not supposed to be available in the United States so every bottle of Westvleteren beer in the U.S. is an illegally smuggled bootleg.

My friend knows the owners, but it was advertised at the bar. Tossed the bottle (which has no label), but kept the bottle cap.

I've been trying to find this beer in the Bay Area.

In my fridge at the moment:
Lost Coast 10 Commandments Ale
Lost Coast Lost and Found Ale
Unibroue Taster Pack consisting of one bottle each: Blanche De Chambly, Chambly Noire, Raftman, and Ephemere Apple

While at least some of Goose Island Brewing Co's beers are available in California their Bourbon County Stout is less widely distributed than some of their other brands. I'd suggest asking the beer buyer at your usual retail beer source whether they can get it for you.
