Applications suspended 11.13.2014 for a "couple weeks".

Harris Bank is now accepting applications for two new consumer Diners Club MasterCards. There is no new account bonus or annual fee waiver. This thread discusses the cards benefits and rewards. Please click HERE to discuss the application process.

Premier $95 annual fee, $35 additional cards, EMV, No foreign transaction fee, Primary CDW, Airport lounge access, $1 = 1 point on all spending.

Elite $300 annual fee, $150 additional cards, EMV, No foreign transaction fees, Primary CDW, Trip Cancellation / Interruption reimbursement, Airport lounge access, $1 = 3 points for grocery stores, supermarkets, drug stores, pharmacies and automobile fuel service stations when you pay at the pump, $1 = 1 point otherwise.

Diners Club Rewards airline and hotel transfer partners are discussed in THIS thread.

Many of the card travel benefits are listed in the Promotions section of the website.

A form to request cards for Authorized Users is HERE.
A form to setup Automatic Payments is HERE.

Differences between the legacy Professional cards and the new Consumer cards:
  • Card type. Professional = charge card; Consumer = credit card
  • Foreign transaction fees. Professional 3%; Consumer 0.
  • CDW vehicle value cap. Professional = $75,000 (Diners) or $100,000 (Carte Blanche); Consumer = $50,000
  • Other insurance. On cursory examination there appears to be differences in the carriers and terms of the other coverages. The Consumer coverages may be a standard package arranged by MasterCard, while the Professional coverages may be inherited from Citi. Someone would need to read carefully side-by-side to find the differences.

Mint.com and PersonalCapital.com does NOT currently work with this card however I have confirmed that they will add it once they receive at least 5 requests to do so. So, for those that have the card and use these sites please send a support ticket asking them to add "Diners Club International" at the URL: https://www.bmoharriscreditcards.com...sumer/Login.do . ^

I'm actually thinking of simplifying my credit life a bit and going back to cash back instead of transferrable points. I'd still keep my Premier card for international travel, rental car coverage (IMO better than Chase's in that it's less ambiguous about some of the terms) and lounge access though.

Did you mean MC? I never heard of a BMO Diners being a Visa.

I'm still a bit upset I didn't get this when I had a chance. The lounge access and no reporting is nice.

Yup sorry - meant MC. I always view them as interchangeable - never been to a place that accepts one but not the other

There are a few but not many. For example, Sam's Club store takes MC but not Visa.

I once saw a small restaurant that only took Visa. That was the only place I ever encountered. But won't Costco soon only take Visa?

Soon to also be AmEx. It seems like it's probably a good idea from a customer experience standpoint to just take all of them at this point.

It is about the anniversary time for Elite card. Will you renew it if it is still open?

I renewed my Premier card. It's looking like a very good decision right now because almost no one else followed their lead with an actual chip and PIN card. The lounge access and primary CDW doesn't hurt either. I SM'd them out of curiosity to see if they'd let me PC to Elite but their answer was basically "no". Not that I'd likely have done it anyway because my spend wouldn't pay the AF for it, but the option would have been nice to have.

...and as each month passes, their temporary suspension of taking applications for the new cards begins to look more and more permanent.

If they are waiting until all existing accounts are 12 months old before they publish new terms I would not expect to see anything until, say, early December or perhaps 1.1.2016 for simplicity.

The response I got from them when I SM'd about converting my card sounded an awful lot like they weren't going to change the terms and were just going to create new card products at some indefinite point in the future. But who knows?

Nope. It's kind of a catch 22: I don't put enough spending on the card to make the chances of success good and I don't put enough spending because the earn rate is only 1x. On the other hand, if I did choose to PC to Elite and they allowed it, it would likely become my primary card and thus improve the chances of a waiver.

Make sense to be the primary card for 3x GGD spending. I will try to ask when my renewal comes in next month.
