I once had this problem too.... after a sch change, I called and asked to get the itin cleaned up. The agent asked if I wanted upgrades, and I said yes. She said that for some reason my itin shows that I don't, even though the website showed "requested". Is this the work of the system or of a rogue agent?

I am pretty sure that is an accurate way to get V inventory.

Sometimes though, delta.com will return them as Y-Ups and the results will return as First (A), instead of Y - Available. In this situation I would not count as the search being a good indication of V inventory.

I missed an ATL-SFO upgrade earlier this year because I "hadn't requested it."

According to ExpertFlyer:

DL1696 VPS-ATL V7
DL0469 ATL-MCI V7

You should immediately call SMS and have them remove and then reinsert your SM number in the PNR (and you'd better do it fast before the FO window opens later). The upgrade should clear immediately. I thought this was common knowledge around here.

Already taken care of. I did ask about the SM number removal/reinsertion but the agent said it was not necessary. The problem allegedly was that I had "done something" to reject the upgrade request. Once she put the upgrade request back in, they cleared immediately. But as I stated above, my itinerary always showed upgrades as requested. But I think that multiple schedule changes and itinerary "clean-ups" were actually the culprit in canceling the requests.

If A is available, does that usually mean V is available?

No. They have no relation.

Hmm.. It looks like some travelers not wanting to risk missing the upgrade have taken up all the V seats on a Christmas Eve red eye I'm on. There are however 11 seats left.

Assuming for the sake of example that nobody purchases any of the seats, when do those 11 remaining seats get released? 30 minutes prior to departure?

Is expertflyer the only way to get V inventory avail?

Or is there a way to use the KVS availability tool to also?

Checking on my DCA-ATL-SFO flights this friday (451 and 649) and wondering if I have a chance...

Thanks in advance!
