Any update? I noticed that J was half-empty and now appears to be almost completely full (only 2 seats remaining), and coach now has 1 seat open. Either a bunch of non-revs are now in J or the op-uped a bunch of people.

Just boarded...no upgrade. Oh well, it was a fun waiting game as always :)

Oversold?
If the expert flyer is showing F2, Y2 on a flight 12 hours before departure, does it mean its not sold out? Does it have to show 0 in all buckets to say that a flight is oversold? Or with in 24 hours of departure EF info is not accurate? I am trying to see if there is a VDB chance as a direct flight to my eventual destination seems to have good availability where as one of the segments on my ticketed route is only showing F2 Y2. When I booked the ticket this route was cheaper than the direct flight. Thanks

Yes, zeroed out usually equals oversold. I have had flights have seats for sale in F and/or Y still end up oversold, but it is usually ex-LAX.
Disruptions, cancellations, etc. can affect the seats available as well. |
It could still be oversold, a lot of flights, especially mainlines, sometime Delta Connection, could be oversold by 5 and still allow 2 more. They do this a lot out of the hubs since people misconnect but there is still the slight chance it's oversold.

DL200 Oversold?
Is Y oversold on DL200 on 9/3/2011? Looks like Y seats are still for sale, and there are a few seats open on the map in J - but everything blocked out in coach.
Any help would be appreciated! |

If you are talking about ATL-JNB on 9/4 then no it is not even close to oversold. That flight is wide open in coach....still 50+ seats available.

www.expertflyer.com offers excellent insights into oversold situations.
If the flight is not Y0, then it's probably not oversold in coach. And there's always the possibility of the fight being JxY0, where the back is over, the front is under, and the flight is not oversold thanks to impending op-ups... |

I've seen a number of people write this, but I can't figure out how that makes sense. Unless flights only overbook by 1, there has to be a time when they're overbooked but still selling seats. Right?
