Is this flight oversold?
I shamefully do not know how to do this myself. Could someone tell me and show me who do to it? I am checking out possible bump opportunities. It is DL 9 from LGW to ATL on Nov 30. The seat assignment map is full. Thanks for any help.

Originally posted by indufan: I'd say coach is probably oversold with those numbers. What the number shows is that the airline is still willing to sell more seats on this flight at the right price, the "0's" just indicate not many are available in the cheaper rates. There just might be a good chance that this flight might end up oversold but the airline will be selling tickets at a cost high enough to cover the cost of a bump. My observation has been that most airlines have become much more conservative in their yield management this year...... and I am speaking from experience since I received over $5,000 in bumps last year. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ Oracle Implementations .... I realize this is the Delta forum, but could someone possibly check if CO 70 EWR- AMS on 11/26 and CO 71 AMS-EWR on 12/1 are oversold as well.
Thanks |
As said by many others, trying to figure out bump chances from just about any online system is a crap shoot.
BECAUSE: We have all boarded a flight that the system showed as full or overbooked, only to see it leave with empty seats. We have all boarded flights that showed as half empty, then winds up leaving with people still standing at the gate. How does this happen? Missed connections, due to weather or equipment in a distant city. Large changes in groups flying due to a group bus not making it to the airport, or the group taking a different flight. Rebooking due to upcoming weather. (rare since that would involve smart mgmt) A flight cancelled that either adds MANY more to your flight, or reduces the number of people arriving to connect to your flight. The changes, the possiblilities are endless and nothing but a crap shoot. |

Based on the numbers when I checked DL 9 last night, very/very doubtful this flight will need volunteers. The number of open BE seats at this time would more than accomodate the oversell in coach.

And, if you have 5 seats, they probably would not come looking for you. Here is why:
If they were close and might need a few volunteers, they would want the single or couples flying together. If they thought they were over by 5 people and pulled you aside, to later find out (due to simple counting problems - it happens), that they had 4 extra people, they would have to put you on the plane and find other volunteers. Get's messy. On the other hand, if they know they are going to be 10+ oversold, grabbing one block of 5 is great. |
