Well my "oversold" flight last Monday wound up going out with empty seats. (I did volunteer and even with a late boarding there was still overhead room for my suitcase so....) The plane went from "oversold" and we need volunteers at $400 a pop to open pretty quick LOL!

well i was hoping for a bump earlier this week, avail showed Y1 and 0 every other class for 2 weeks prior to departure, delta website site would show the flight avail one day and not another day under flight schedule. so i believe its harder generally on these small airports with small planes to be bumped from my experience

My flight from SAN-ATL was at 0 Y for a few days, and CO had canceled all of its flights to IAH due to the hurricane. Still there were no bumps.

Can you tell if a flight is oversold from the online upgrade list?
When viewing the online upgrade list, is there a way to tell from the "total available seats" whether the flight is oversold? What does this number actually refer to? Seats that are not assigned, people that have not checked in? I was wondering how my chances for being bumped are tonight on ATL-LAX. It's showing 2 in F 13 in Y right now.

Unless you have access to DL's internal computer system, there is no way of telling if a flight is oversold.

https://www.delta.com/help/faqs/susp.../index.jsp#how How can I learn if a flight is overbooked? Our reservations representatives and customer service agents will let you know if your flight is overbooked, on request. |
If you call the airline, they are required to tell you if the flight is oversold. The tools available to non-airline employees simply say if there are seats for sale or not.

i checked in online back in April and the checkin screen showed me that the flight is oversold and they were searching for volunteers. If interested i may ask a gate agent at the airport.
I saw this online about 5 hours online when they opened the check-in counters in Berlin |

All LAX flights tonight are oversold.

Tomorrow's Flight Oversold?
I just did online check-in. The computer indicated that the first leg of my flight is oversold. The screen said they were offering compensation and if we were interested we should discuss it with the GA tomorrow.
I am always interested, but I would be more interested if I could volunteer before I leave my house (90 minutes from the airport) and go to the airport. If I volunteer tomorrow night I will either end up spending tomorrow night in a hotel in Jacksonville or a hotel in Atlanta. If I could volunteer tonight I could spend tomorrow night in my own home. I suppose they can not really do this because they really do not know, for sure, if a flight is over-sold until they actually board the plane. Still, it would be nice to be able to utilize my very flexible schedule, provide DL with space on the flight and earn a little money towards my next travel adventure. |

I have had so many false "oversold" announcements (OLCI and kiosk) that I ignore them. The last two "oversolds" ended up so that I had otherwise-unoccupied rows to myself!^ |
Which flight is oversold? Flight number makes it easiest to check the loads, or city pair.
It's Weds. so I doubt you will have an issue. |
While you answered your own question, the only times you'll get an advance bump like that is in odd situations like an equipment swap for significantly smaller aircraft, where they know they're massively over and will need volunteers.
Other than that, the only "pre-bump" you'll ever see is a GA that already knows he or she will need vols, they'll bump you before departure. |
