May 14 flight from LAX to SFO cancelled, rerouted trough SLC, compensation?

On May 14th I had a straight confirmed flight at 7am from LAX to SFO.
At 3.30am I received an email and noticed on my itineraries that my flight had been cancelled and changed to a flight from LAX to SFO at 7.30am and then from SLC to SFO at just before noon.
I arrived in SFO afternoon and thus missed a morning bussiness meeting.

Am I entitled to compensation as my delay was over 4 hours long?

I asked if there was another way and if I was entitled to compensation and food and the GA said I was rerouted the most efficient way so there was no compensation.

What was the reason for the cancellation of your flight?

I would write a letter to Delta Air Lines if I were you, detailing your experience, what compensation to which you believe you are entitled and why. Ensure that the correspondence is written in a professional and civil manner.

Make sure you DON'T request "original routing credit" and get the additional MQMs

I absolutely agree with Canarsie's advice!

All I know is that the flight was cancelled, I assume since the load factor seemed to be less then 50%.
Booked the flights trough Delta but the LAX/SFO section that was cancelled was on ASA.

There were a bunch of us on both flights from LAX toSLC and then frim SLC toSFO.

ASK!

I would bet it wasn't load factor...even though they wouldn't admit it if it was.

Next Time....

If You were booked on a nonstop flight from point A to B, then ask for an identical routing, if available. In this case, there is UA, AA, F9, so ASK for it. Routing via SLC is unacceptable. ASK for a SUPERVISOR if You have to.

Not to mention SkyMiles partner AS also flies LAX to SFO non-stop!

So the concensus is I should ask for compensation?

Last time with Air France was a mess and I never got compensated despite having to spend a night at a hotel at CDG at their expense.

So I am kinda like, blah about it.

Yeah, I agree with the above comments. They should have put you on F9, their non-stops between LAX-SFO are usually pretty empty, hence why the route is being axed.

Smart idea. That MIGHT get at least a $100 voucher (possibly).

First order of business of GA (including supervisor CSR)
is to look at ALL partners/interlines
to get customer there the QUICKEST most efficient method.

West Coast traffic in that corridor is HEAVY so open seats for
same class probably was NOT available.
