Just to keep you all in the loop, since you are family of sorts My grandmother passed away very early yesterday morning, peacefully in her sleep. We had a small graveside service today (just the four of us and the Rabbi -- my grandfather could not attend) because of the corona virus, but I imagine we'll have a memorial service later this year. We just did a virtual shiva call over a Zoom conference and over 60 people attended. It was wonderful to "see" everyone.

Now back to homework. I got a couple of assignment extensions, but the semester does not stop!

Very sorry for your loss and especially sorry that your grandfather couldn't attend. Wishing your family all the best during this time.

I guess I could work through the weekend, but there's really no need to. I was hoping to go hiking tomorrow, but the weather forecast doesn't look great for that. Maybe we'll break out a puzzle.

I think I'm going to try to clean out closets and the kitchen.

We have a room we refer to as our office, but lately it's become where we pile things when we clean out other rooms. This might be a good weekend to tackle that. At least I don't have to work on my taxes yet...

-J, I am sorry for your loss, but grateful your grandmother left us peacefully and you were able to find a way, in these uncertain times, to be with your family. "Hug"

Thank you all for your kind words. We are all holding up surprisingly well. I think it's because we were so busy taking care of my grandfather. He has aide coverage 24/7 now which is a blessing, and yesterday he walked! Who knows what will happen next. I have a list of things I need to do today, so happy Friday!

I anticipate charities seeing an increase in donations as people purge their houses.

Trying to rebook my flight to South Africa that was booked on Delta with Virgin Atlantic Miles. Their website says to contact them via SMS if you're not traveling in the next 72 hours, but I've tried twice and keep getting responses telling me that they're only handling people flying in the next 72 hours. I get it, but why does your website say to use this contact method?

The longer version if anyone cares:
I booked Delta One Suites outbound ATL-JNB using VS miles and QSuites returning CPT-DOH-IAH-DFW-SAT using AA miles. I can redeposit the AA miles for free, and I've already found QSuites availability and put it on hold for CPT-DOH-DFW-SAT in November. Since there is no Delta One availability on ATL-JNB at low/saver/whatever we're calling the rate available to partners, I'm hoping to be rebooked on VS metal ATL-LHR-JNB for the outbound. I'd really like to confirm that they'll rebook me before I ticket the AA reservation, but they won't answer me. Yes, there are much worse issues going on in the world, but I find this frustrating.

Here's the information from their website. What I find confusing is that it says you need a VS flight number but also says it includes Flying Club bookings. Award bookings always carry the operating carrier's flight number. I'd appreciate any insight any of you might have because my post from several days ago in the VS forum has received zero responses.

I'm so sorry, but it's nice that you were close to your grandmother and grandfather.

My condolences to you and your family. I feel extra sad for people losing family these days (whether coronavirus-related or not) who are unable to grieve together as a group due to distancing measures!

I'm currently being annoyed because this is around when Mom and I would be going to Taiwan, and I booked BR using UA miles to be on the same outbound as her, and CI using DL miles on the way back (returning on different days) and as I have dropped to UA Gold it will cost me $75 to redeposit the miles. Which is worth it for 80k UA pesos but still mildly sticks in my craw given DL is allowing even non-status pax free redeposits for eligible mileage tickets.

On another note, although I have no reason to be on a plane these days, I figured I could at least take a walk along the bay by the SFO approach

The SFO ILS Outer Marker (BRIJJ) is not only listed in Google Maps, someone also left a review: "A splendid outer marker, one of the FAA's finest"
