Update from Delta:

“At Delta, we are continuously making thoughtful investments to elevate the on-board experience based on our customers’ feedback. Our customers have told us that they value having more control over their experience inflight, specifically around selecting their meal options in advance to ensure they receive their first choice. As a result, we are conducting a pre-selection test April 24 through May 24.During the month-long test period, a subset of customers traveling on select international flights in the Delta One cabin will be asked to participate in the test via an email and/or text message. Throughout the test, customer satisfaction scores and flight attendant feedback as well as operational aspects will be closely monitored. We will share our plans beyond the test period after we review all the results and our go-forward plan has been finalized.” – Delta representative Catherine Sirna

I hope this might also mean consistent adherence to FEBO domestically, so you know what to expect even if you don't always get your first choice.

Positive development, but I suspect roll out to the domestic service is at least a year out...

If from Atlanta to several of the major European hubs your chance is decent.

Will they even do this on domestic flights? Seems like there could be a lot of waste of resources with people SDC'ing all the time.

At the very least, I'd like to be able to view the menu in advance. I want to know if I should eat in the airport or not.

I agree that SDC might cause problems, but as far as I can tell it's not a problem for AA.

Yeah, forgot that all things resolve around ATL :p

BOS-AMS here, and back later from Europe to JFK... so guess I won't be selected for the pilot program. Hope it goes well though.

What would be wasted? If you SDC you just would not get your pre-choice, and you may end up with someone else's pre-choice.

Yes. Other than the second week of April. Oh and that week in January. And the one in August. ;)

I do not believe this is an issue with AA and if AA can do it, surely DL can too. As I understand it for AA, the FA will review the manifest and annotate preselect meal choices. Then the FA will review the meals loaded, say six chickens and six pastas. The FA then subtracts the preselects (two chickens, two pastas) from those meals that were loaded and proceeds with taking orders from pax who did not pre-select (four of each choice left). IME, pre-select is not always acknowledged, even where there was no changes to my flight, but it's generally never been an issue.

If a pax SDCs, the pax receives the benefit of an itinerary that is more conducive to their schedule and needs. Schedule always beats out a meal choice, but that could just be me. I would never forego the chance to get to where I need to be faster because I had pre-selected a meal. DL knows this and thus will let me pick from whats left-over, assuming this ever comes to fruition.

I have D1 - DTW-NRT Mat 24th ...Fingers Crossed that I'm picked :D

This doesn't solve the real problems until the kitchens and crew learn how to deliver a properly cooked meal and not raw vegetables (those supposed to be cooked) and extra well done filets.
