Do you have sources or is this just your magical thinking? |

One other argument in favor of this is that many people like to plan their meals, even those (such as airplane food) that aren't exactly going to get Michelin stars. If I know I'm having red meat on a flight I won't eat it the day before; ditto for not wanting a particular national cuisine two days in a row, or an entree salad two days in a row, or a dairy-intensive meal two days in a row, etc. For many "civilians" this isn't an issue, but for the food obsessive among us it's important. D1 is clearly trying--with varying degrees of success--to appeal to this latter group, so pre-ordering is easy to understand as part of that initiative.

I have but not many and its been a while since I avoid Chardonnay.
I very much enjoy the Montrachets but that is not an everyday sort of wine (at least for me) and when I am buying a bottle of wine in that price range its going to most likely be from the Champagne or Bordeaux region or a Chateauneuf de Pape. A decent Chablis is nice paired with certain items like oysters and other shellfish. The white that I really enjoy that you don't see much of is Pinot Gris (epecially from Alsace) which is different from Pinot Grigio. I too prefer the richer, sweeter style of the Alsace Pinot Gris, than its Italian version Pinot Grigio, which I don't mind either. I haven't flown D1 yet, but back in the BE days, Delta would present a wine list with descriptions and pairing recommendations. Has that been discontinued? |

no pairing recommendations, but fairly detailed descriptions (MAD-JFK earlier this month)

I feel compelled to do a follow-up to my earlier comments based on the catastrophe of my Delta One Transcon Flight from JFK to LAX on Friday evening since the turd cherry on top was that not only did we have an aircraft change but we got regular non Transcon food and less beverages (two hours into the flight they were already out of Club Soda). I was flying JFK-LAX Delta One on a 767, had booked my own seat on the window (5A). Checked in soon after the 24 hour checkin was available. Everything all set and looking good. Right as I am arriving at JFK I notice my seat has changed from 5A to 4A and I further investigate on the Delta Ap and see we are now on a 757, but I look at the amenties and it is still listed as lie flat seats so I naturally assumed it was the 757 Transcon config and even through I am a bit annoyed about that as I specifically maneuvered schedule wise for the 767 I foolishly thought everything else was fine. WRONG. I walked onto the plane and turned into the First section and stopped dead in my tracks, it was just an old fashioned 757. Not even close to 180 recline seats. After sitting down I see the ground crew having an intense conversation with the flight crew. Then over the intercom along with a profuse apology about the change in planes was the news that food would not be transcon but regular and that there would be less beverages and food than usual (and yes, regular wines, not Transcon wines). There was obviously also a delay with this all going on and the most irritated First Class cabin (including myself) that I have ever seen. On a positive, they did follow FEBO so I was one of the first ones to order so I got the tiny overcooked beef filet with potatoes.

Seriously. How does DL go from a lie-flat 767 to a 757 with recliner first? Every "D1" customer should receive a partial refund (either fare difference between D1 and Y, or between D1 and whatever a one-stop FC itinerary costs on that route). I hope you pursue this. |

I probably would have taken one look and gotten right back off. I assume you absolutely had to be on that flight.

I do have to comment that the pilot and flight attendants did the absolute best they could and realized we were upset. On a sidenote, the only Transcon thing we got were the Tumi amenity kit (which I didnt open until this morning) and the big Heavenly duvet and pillow. The pillow was nice but the duvet is way, way too big for an old fashioned 757 seat, takes up a lot of space. |
Incidentally, I specifically went out of my way for the flight. I flew up to JFK from DCA the prior evening. I told my seat mate on that curse voyage that the irony is that flight I am coming back on, which is supposed to be several steps below Delta One, a United LAX-IAD flight on an old PS config 757 is at the very least going to be way more comfy.

I do not understand why they could not serve the D1 meals, unless perhaps there was an issue with oven space. I can think of reason at all to not stock the D1 drink cart. |
All the more reason that DL should convert those five ex-Shanghai 75Gs to 75S versions so that in the future there will always be an extra 75S available at JFK should a 75S or B763ER goes tech! Absolutely disgraceful that this last minute swapping to a 75D/75H continues to happen, albeit rarely!
