Exactly.

The whole concept behind FF programs is to give away something that costs nothing.

Perhaps Delta has plans to begin more aggressive monetization of the domestic BE routes out of JFK.

Perhaps if this is the start of a trend toward reducing upgrades in general this could have a silver lining: If high revenue generating flyers are spending a lot of time in coach on the major airlines, especially on long routes like transcons, there might start to be some investment in the coach product. . . .

The upgrade certs are great in theory, however in the past every time I tried to use them there was no availability, 3 years in a row they went to waste. Also living in NYC the fact that complimentary upgrades will no longer be offered on transcon flights is VERY disappointing Will Delta rather leave the seats open then offer them to their loyal and elite customers - I mean they could still upgrade day of, if the seats were open, making everyone happy, IMO.

Oh, don't worry. They won't be left open, and certain people will be very happy. Please re-read the first few pages (I think) of this thread.

That's pretty much how it's been working over the last couple years and other than "promoting benefit(s)" of practically non-existent WinUG's on those routes I didn't have a problem holding those seats for sale up until boarding.

But like you, what will they do with those BE seats that don't sell and/or UPFare? Awkward....

Don't Diamonds get 2 Choice Benefits which works out to 8 GUs or 16 RUs?

Per year don't think so. You can't choose the same choice benefit, plus previously you could also choose SWUs as part of your PM choice, and PMs don't get GUs.

Though Diamonds receive two Choice Benefits, they cannot select the same option twice, so the maximum number of Global Upgrades per Medallion is four.

DMs can get 0, 4, 8, or 12 RUs, although 8 or 12 are only available if they don't take 4 GUs.

Is this an unwritten rule?

It's in the way the website is set up and the procedure for picking your choice benefits. You must check two boxes and you cannot check the same box twice for DM, where, for example, the Tiffany and DL gift cards come from the same box.

Tks for the clarification. If it was 8 GUs, it would be much more on par with UA and AA.

AA gives 8 (sometimes more) eVIPs to EXP, UA gives 6 (sometimes more) SWUs to 1K and GS, while US gives 2 of their SWUs to their top tier IIRC.

Reciprocal Alaska Benefit change?

With the change, does that implicate change on upgrade policy for flight between Hawaii and West Coast for Alaska elite on DL and Delta elite on AS?

Regarding upgrades between SEA and JFK, AA & B6 provides non-stop between JFK and SEA. This move by DL is not competitive to AA's service as AA has no such restriction. UA and AS provides nonstop to EWR and also have "no upgrade" exclusion.

Does AA fly with a flatbed or lie-flat product? I thought DL was the only carrier flying JFK-SEA or even NYC-SEA with a true premium product (ie not domestic First)
