My fear is that DM's are being setup to rejoin the ranks of SM-PM. DL is great about promising you the world, only to rip the rug out from under you....

I may be in the minority, but the idea that DM is now gaining some separation from PM is good in my book. It makes justifying a last minute MR a little easier.... I am not saying that DM has the value it should based on requirements, but PM & DM have been a bit too similar in the past considering the 50K difference in qualification.

But, and it's a big BUT, it's all going to come down to how easy (or hard) it is to use the (any fare) Global Upgrades for international flights.
This is something, I "think" we will have to wait to find out about. I am not particularly optimistic, it will be easy to clear these upgrades (in advance); but perhaps, if they clear with a good % at the gate, it will be ok. The ability to upgrade a €500 to €1200 roundtrip from Europe to the States is a pretty big deal (same for Asia, though, I hardly track those routes and/or fares).

Programs: Now just a lowly DL PM/1MM. This industry needs some competition. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

I agree with this, conceptually. Even as a not particularly happy Platinum (who has a happier Diamond SO).

They do if the person upgraded to the front cabin opens up a Y seat that could then be sold. @:-)
In addition, by giving a free UG to a Medallion they are reinforcing the reason hy that person should stay loyal to DL and not jump ship and spend their travel money with another carrier.

IMHO there is an arrogance coming from Virginia Ave. that was prevalent in the Rob Borden days right before the Save SkyMiles movement started several years ago.

Well, I've confirmed (upgrades in BusinessElite SWUs or mileage); some as much as 70+ days in advance. Some confirming from waitlist, some at time of request. (and others, as noted, at the KLM lounge on day of departure).
Time period : June 2013 to January 2014
BOS-AMS x4 (Y fares for 3, M fare for 1)
AMS-MSP-PHL x1 (M fares)
PBI-ATL-AMS x1 (M fares)
AMS-BOS x4 (these were KLM Lounge upgrades)
That's my PERSONAL experience.

Of course, as a Platinum, the "party ends" for me, but it could be a decent situation for my SO who is Diamond. I guess, we shall see......

The change just went live yesterday when the site admins fulfilled our request for the name change. I'll be posting a better explanation later today with a quick recap. The change is minor, but have to say...nothing gets by this group. Nothing.

My concern is something very common. Like most here, all my intl flts are connections. I can easily see where the dom flt clears with the GMU but the intl seg never clears. Now that will be an extreme waste of a good cert. Since I havent even chosen 2013 bens yet, I will also wait and see how this goes.

Bit off topic, but I actually preferred the previous larger feather pillow, even with being occasionally poked by a feather. New blanket is very nice.

LOLOLOLOL....sure....ignore your marketing team...ignore the focus groups...ignore the research.....ignore the combined hundreds and hundreds of years of airline experience.....ignore the market trends....ignore the economy.....ignore the competition. DL - just use the intel and info here. Nothing better upon which to base your business than a collection of folks who don't want to pay for the service they desire. Somehow if you don't follow them, it will be the end.
