There seems to be tax reasons for serving the swill pre-departure and nectar from Reims post wheels-up.

Once airborne, one must exercise vigilance to ensure that the trolley-dollies don't serve you Cava, prosecco, or white lambrusco in lieu of proper champers. Alas, to too many it's all the same fizzy stuff.

I flew this roundtrip this weekend. There were two bottles of
Champagne loaded for the predeparture beverage service. The flight attendant said that this should be the norm on Caribbean flights.

On a side note, I told her to save me the second bottle and I enjoyed it until I switched to vodka, then gin, then tequila. ;-)

No I refuse to accept this. Even my grand mother who has been dead since 1978 could tell this crap in her grave from real champers.

I do pay attention and sometimes if I'm served a glass of sparkling something without being shown the bottle, the FA is shocked and awed when I immediately recognize that it isn't the good stuff. I'm shocked sometimes when the FAs insist that they think it's all the same and at least pretend that I'm the first passenger to tell them that the up in the air champagne is different from the PDB stuff.

This was an awesome post. So glad you recalled it.

I think this guy could alter the duke's tagline -- "I don't always drink champagne, but when I do, I drink a lot"..

Exactly. My PD request is to (nicely) as the FA's to please put the real stuff on ice so its properly chilled upon cruising.

anyone else get entire wine bottles donated to them? I was sulking back in Economy, having not made it into FC on the upgrade list, so I went ahead and paid the $7 for a glass of wine. FA comes back from FC, and asks me if I would like another, since she has it open and would have to throw it out anyway.^ Sure, bend my arm...She brings me another glass, without charging me and then asks me if I liked it, I asked her what year/selection it was. She said she would go find out, and then brings me back the an entire unopened bottle to take with me on my travels... FA are always handing me bottles of wine to take, I've been told I have a pretty face, hope I'm not starting to look like a lush too..

I had three trips to SJU this past month. On each of them they offered sparkling wine during pre-departure beverage on the flight from ATL and JFK to SJU. No sparkling wine was available on any of the returns on ATL or JFK. It seems they only cater a bottle or two in ATL and JFK but do not restock it in SJU.

So if you want to have the sparkling wine, get it pre-departure on your way to SJU.

I know that you can get champagne on true BE flights, but have no idea if that is likely to be an option on our JFK-SJU flight. I would rather get an idea of the possibility of champagne being available here on FT than ask on our flight and be embarassed when the FA says no.

Thanks!
For what it's worth . . . oddly, I was offered a pre-flight Mimosa in FC on an ATL-GUA flight in July.

Just flew ATL-PJU last week and they had "Champagne" or something to make Mimosas with on the way there. We ran that out pretty quick and had to switch the Screwdrivers. Asked on the way back and no Champagne.
