The last time I flew BE JFK-SJU-JFK we had champagne (ok, unlike TATL BE it was sparkling wine both on the ground and in the air) but it was something. I understand this route now has mojitos back as well.

Champagne must be a tricky issue for Delta as you have people who generally enjoy it and are knowledgable about it, especially vs sparkling wine. On the other hand, you have American kettles who are on the trip of a lifetime (on a 757!) and demand champagne to complete their VIP experience, yet couldn't tell you the difference between Crémant de Home Depot or Veuve. There is limited space in the carts for something that goes unused.

I believe your friend MSPeconomist was discussing long haul international with proper service

There's no reason to be embarrassed to ask. You certainly could say something simple, like, I'm trying to decide between a mixed drink and something bubbly. What type of sparkling wine do you offer?

Whenever I want to ask for something - anywhere - and at first I feel potentially embarrassed by the question, there's usually a way to rephrase the question so it sounds totally different!

Why be embarrassed? If they don't have it, they don't have it. I have been told they don't have vodka anymore (yes, part of that was my doing ).

I had bubbly ATL-CUN...whatever that does/doesn't mean for this.

It was on my flight in April 2012

LGA to MSY direct. My companion and I got the F upgrade (at the window!) for me (GM) and my companion (peon). We were on vacation and really wanted to toast our vacay with some champagne. We asked and the FA didn't hesitate at all and brought us two glasses of bubbly. I'm not a champs oeniphile but i can tell you they did not serve us Vueve but it was champaigne-like and served the purpose of a toast!

After that we went to screwdrivers anyway.. love those 8am flights getting drunk in F!!

And what kind of shape were you in for the flight home after a few days in MSY?

Oh trust me, I can certainly tell the difference!

You are completely right. I don't know why, but every once in awhile, my insecurities as a youngster get the better of me and I just cannot seem to open my mouth and ask for what I'd like without fear of being embarrased when the answer is no.

I'm not looking to have champagne/sparkling wine available the entire flight, but it would certainly be nice to have a little something bubbly to toast the beginning of our vacation with!

Oh, I'd gladly pay to see someone make a decent mojito in-flight. I'm just not holding my breath, with TSA probably refusing to permit a muddler on-board (looks too much like a baseball bat).

Delta did a survey asking whether one preferred sparkling wine or champagne along with other in-flight amenities coming in late 2012 so you may be in luck.

Two months ago, TPAC. DL never serves real champagne as a PDB--it's usually proseco--and they've recently been flipping their up in the air sparkling wine so that sometimes it's the real stuff and sometimes it's from California.

Yup - got an OpUp Dec 21st 2011 ATL-MAN and that was offered as a PDB. Long story short I said "May I have a beer?!!"

Has anyone tried the new Aveo Tequila they're now touting as being onboard?

Any good?

Does this mean they're making Margarita's again with Margarita mix?!? What else would one mix it with (if anything)?

Had it last week - was ok. Margarita mix (Margaritaville) was a bit sweet, and I wouldn't go out of my way to get one, but, they were better than the last time they tried having margaritas on board... Tequila is Avion, which seemed reasonable.
