And, no, I was not looking for the word "expected"...I meant the word that I used - "hope". I don't think he (necessarily) expected an UG but he surely hoped for one, and perhaps that one of the FA's would have sympathy and want to keep a family together. He sat exactly where he should have, regardless of sick children.
Who in coach with status does not hope for an upgrade? Why would you villify someone for hoping for an upgrade?

Bingo, we have a mind reader among our members now too! N808DE knows what a stranger thought, what he hoped would happen, and what he should have purchased!

Whereas, in reality, the only thing we actually know is that the OP indeed sat where he was supposed to, did not complain about it, and did not ask to be upgraded. But that's a minor detail, because as a mind reader, N808DEknows best!

Gloating over someone's misfortune is anything but classy. But don't loose hope, there are well trained professionals that could help you. That you should have definitely done!

WestJet just came up with a cute and (IMO) hilarious "solution" to this, it's called Kargo Kids (sorry if this is a drop OT but it's still close to April 1st and hopefully it will lighten the mood in this thread).

Watch the video until the end!

Tact:

Tact is what allows us to honor both honesty and compassion in difficult conversations. It lets us speak truth in ways that other people are able to hear without becoming too threatened or hurt. To be tactful means choosing our timing as well as our words. Tact requires that we put ourselves in another persons place and think about their circumstances and feelings.

Nope -even (especially) on a TATL I am always hoping to hear those magic words that the Economy cabin has been oversold.

It would be hard for any elite in Y to see an empty J cabin... But imagine the Shena threads had this gone differently.

OK - I have to bite. I did not want to appear ignorant. I have tried the search function. In a few threads I have seen the Shena reference. Can someone knindly in one or two sentences or so explain the Shena situation or give me a link to a thread I can enjoy with my Bombay Sapphire and Vermouth tonight?
