This was a great point to make. My company requires we use a travel portal and nothing but coach even shows up.

Why would DL care? Somebody who works for a company which doesn't make irrational business decisions gets the F seat while you are stuck in Y for roughly the same price. As long as somebody buys it, DL is happy.

Common sense tells us that, but DL seems to base decisions solely on the data they have. That's how I explain the insistence on M+ fares for long haul SWUs; DL has no data on the people who leave SkyMiles due to this policy.

I've had that happen a couple of times. Scratched my head and bought the P. Even served a ham sammich for lunch.

Funny thing is I had to send an email to approve him buying a FC fare... that was $450 cheaper than coach...

And, of course, we're hoping you said, "YES!" in that email!
