DTW weather -- 5/25?

What was up yesterday?
I was flying home from YYZ to DCA.
Originally booked on a late afternoon through ATL but SDCed to a noon departure through DTW. We got to the end of the runway in YYZ, sat and then returned to the gate because of a ground hold in DTW.
Called the Diamond line and got rebooked back to my original flight, but with flightaware soon discovered that the 4 pm YYZ-ATL flight was likely to break my connection in ATL (because the ship was coming from DTW) so called the Diamond line again and rebooked through JFK. The YYZ-ATL flight eventually got cancelled, and I got home with 30 minutes of my originally planned arrival but am curious about what was going on in DTW -- all weather?

The airside agents in YYZ were great, cheerful, keeping everyone informed, and very helpful (one of them earned one of my reward certs), as were the two Diamond line agents I dealt with. I'll be sending a contact us in.

Locally there were places that got in excess of 5 inches of rain, freeways and roads were flooded, rivers are cresting at 7 feet above flood stage Huron River in Ann Arbor and Clinton River in Macomb County. Supposed to be alot of the same this afternoon as well so check flight connections this afternoon just to be sure.

DTW did have bad weather. Mrs. Asmara and I were scheduled to fly DTW to FLL at 14:05 and were grounded several hours. Enjoyed the SC at A66 train exit. We could see our plane waiting out on the tarmac om the SC window.

The main problem was lightning. The tower was calling in all ground crew for 15 min after each strike. Our flight started and stopped boarding several times as the ramp was opened then closed due to lightning. The SC staff informed us some flights into DTW were diverted to Columbus because of this.

When we did take off we also flew west, looping back across MI, as far west as Illinois before heading towards Florida. It must have been a severe front.

Flight attendants were wonderful and kept the drinks and snacks flowing. Certainly no problem with pre-departure bev service!

Detroit Weather Alerts, Warnings and Advisories: The Definitive Thread

Just spent 3 hours doing NASCAR in a CRJ-200 and finally got to DTW. Bad line of storms and is the report my people say. Every damn time I have to fly here it is either snow or fog or storms.

Where the hell is a good Marriott? it appears I get to hunker down for the night here...

I don't know about a Marriott, but go straight to the Westin inside the terminal. Well worth it. I wish ATL would put a hotel in the terminal.

I know there is a nice one in Phuket, but if you are looking for something closer, you better commit yourself to leaving MI for a decent place to stay.

What do you expect when you cross the Mason Dixon line ?

BTW, that sushi spot is pretty good. Not sure what happened in that tunnel, but I think I may have had an acid flashback...
