Has there ever been a large promo for this card?

Also, has anyone had their annual fee waived this year? My annual fee just came due and I rather not use 3,500 points if possible.

Nope, new banking regulations prohibit it. You can use 3,500 points or just pay the $45.

Do you mean waiving the annual fee? Haven't heard of such a thing.

Not true. Citi just waived an annual fee that was due. What regulation are you talking about?

I believe new regulations prevent automatic annual fee waiving based on spending thresholds.

Link to relevant regulation, please. Why would anyone want to eliminate this? (Oops, forgot that it's the federal government.) Really don't grasp the reasoning behind something like this new regulation. Seems like the fee waiver is a non-punitive policy - sort of like a victimless "crime". (Well, of course, there is that prostitution thing as a precedent.)

I am not surprised at some of the Fed govts moves now.

If you spent $24,000 between your last renewal date and this one you will be given an additional 3,500 miles to keep or use to pay the $49 annual fee. I was told the 3,500 take another statement period to post.

I just used 3,500 miles I already had and expect they will be replenished in a month.

Sorry, my comment is not researched, which is why I said "I believe". I was told this by what seemed to be an informed CSR.

Yes, I believe that is usbank's way of getting around said regulation, if there is in fact one.

I've been a big fan of this card for a while now, but I'm starting to come back from that somewhat. I had 2 cards, spent more than $48k between them but less than $24k on one of the cards. They would not waive the $49 fee on that one. Since AmEx GOLD now has 3x for airfare I really don't need two separate FlexPerks cards anymore so I canceled one of them.

It also did not help that their overactive fraud department managed to block my card 3 times this year because of "unusual activity". In this case purchases alternating between the 2 cities of my weekly commute. The lady stated 2 times that I had to call them every time I 'traveled' and did not seem to grasp the concept that this was a predictable event and undoable to call for every week.

It looks like I may not even make the spending threshold on one card with all the great promotions going on elsewhere. Plus the fact that some of my recent CO/UA awards have been much above the 2cent/mile value. Better focus on that for now.

Thanks but I already know about the 24k spending waver. Want to know if anyone had the fee waived without spending 24k or 3,500pts.

Flexpoints

Hey guys,

I have 2 personal cards from NW time which converted to 2 flex cards. I hv a household flexpoints of 20636 from the 2 accounts. If I close 1 account ( so dont hv to pay annual fee), will I loose the points I earned from that 1 account? Thanks!

Transfer the points to the account you want to keep (on the Rewards Center website under Manage Points -> Transfer Points) and then close the account.

Thanks!

Thanks Pakle!

Just spoke to the CSR and came back to post. Bcos the loyalty membership # for both my acounts are the same, no points will be lost. I am also eligible to enroll in the spend 250.oo and get 3500 point by June 30 which will cover my annual fee. So I went ahead and cancel one and keep one.

Not sure if this was ever mentioned. But if you are like me doing banking with US Bank and get their platinum package, you get 50% additional bonus with this card. This means for every $1 you spend you'll get 1.5 points, so potentially you get almost 3% back for ever $1.
