I guess not, but when in doubt, go for the business version.

The reason I went for biz app after my first personal is because of fear that my next card would not be the signature card.

Quote: Do you have any need 4 for MLB cards? There are hints that BofA may also count total cards, but it's not clear. But on that possibility, assuming you don't really need 4 MLB cards, then closing at least some of them might make sense. Except:

Don't close BofA cards without lowering credit limit first. Credit limit that's lowered (at least a day or two) before you close the card becomes available to new applications within a few months. Credit limit that remains on BofA cards at the time they're closed stays unavailable to new applications for a year or more!

(So hopefully you already reduced the credit limit on some or all of those cards, because otherwise just having too high a combined credit limit, or having lowered it too recently, could also be grounds for denial.)
That was my next question when to lower the limit and how long it takes for it "appear". Thanks for the heads up!

Quote: Oh damn I had not lower the credit for those card yet, it been sock drawn for almost 1 year, look like will lower the credit then will stay out to apply the card for another 6 month
The CS Rep said I have too many cards opened with them. I have a VA and AS card and she didn't say that it was specifically AS. I would recommend to close them all out if you don't need them.

Apply for the business card. The business card does not have a Platinum version (that's the "other one" you're referring to), so you either get approved for business Signature (with the full 30k signup bonus) or denied, no yucky in-between possibilities like with the personal card.

Other than that, no, in that many people who rarely get the Platinum card on personal card applications have gotten it at least once. (With the personal card, you may be able to improve your chances, but you can't guarantee, simply because sometimes you may given a Platinum card just because BofA makes a mistake [that they later admit, but that's too late].)

So the only way to guarantee it is never again to apply for the personal Alaska card.

I received a pre selected mailer for Alaska card 30k points and companion pass offer. I've never had one, personal or biz. How can I ensure I'll get the personal platnium with the bonus, I see people referring to the other inferior card with no companion pass. Is this only applicable if you have multiple AS cards?

You can't ensure it, except by applying for the business card instead. The business card doesn't have a platinum version.

You can have world best credit score and still get a platinum version, because BofA makes those kinds of mistakes sometimes. Then they may come back to apologize the next day, but it's too late (their system doesn't let them correct it the next day).

You can lower the chances by having an excellent credit score, by having an existing BofA account perhaps (I had a hard which used to the Choice Hotels card back when BofA had the Choice Hotels account, and I never cancelled it, just used it for something small once a year to keep it alive; don't know if it helps or not), and by not having applied for much in the way of BofA cards in recent years.

You have to get $5000 credit limit or more to be able to get the Signature card. You get Platinum if they can't approve you for even $5000 credit limit.

I got about $17k in CL, then on another card I got about $17k in CL, and then another card I got about $17k in CL, and then suddenly on another card they gave me $1.5k in CL, gave me Platinum, and then called me the next to say they'd mistake (but that it would take over 2 months of multiple steps to correct it). Then soon after that I shifted to business cards, and have gotten about $10k in CLs on those to date.

Does BofA ask why you are reducing your credit limit [prior to closure]?

If so what is a good reason to give them?

I just applied for AS personal and biz. I was automatically approved for the biz, but automatically declined for the personal. I closed all my cards about 60 days ago. Still waiting on the decline letter for the official reason.

Did you recently close a BOA card without first lowering the limit?

i closed my personal a few months ago before lowering the limit. this was before, it seems, that limit lowering was now a must do.

Lowering limits has been a thing for a long while now, certainly longer than a few months. Did you have a high limit on the closed BOA card, what did you enter for income on the app (ballpark fine) and what's your current credit limit across all cards?

I once was able to get 2 cards at once but that seems to be no longer. I also had 3 cards opened at one time with a total credit limit of nearly $20k across them. I closed out 2 of the 3 cards a few months ago with the expectation of opening another card this month. I lowered the credit limit down to the lowest possible, $5k. I learned this from a phone call with BofA. Last week I applied for a card and was denied, letter said I had maxed out my available credit. hmmmm.

This morning I closed my last card. Set a reminder to apply again next month. Waiting is nail bitter!
