Read post 844 for tips on being approved for the business card.
It may be easier to get approved for a new business with 0 years and $0 gross income.

Also see the Applying for Business Credit Cards [Consolidated] thread (not-BofA-specific) for general tips on applying for business cards.

Business card Recon Line:
April 2024: BOA Biz Recon (Small Biz Lending, Credit Analyst) 888-782-7717, 888-569-4439 (M-F 8am-7pm EST), both answered by live human in 2-4 minutes. (Both numbers confirmed multiple times in the past 2-3 days.)
866-695-6598 (8-7pm EST M-F)
Biz card status line: 888 663 6262 (not working)
Biz Card credit analyst line: 888-782-7717
Biz card expedited shipping: wait 24 hours after approval for a card number to generate then call 800-901-9830 and a person will answer. If 1st Rep says "no" ask him/her to ck. with a supervisor. This worked for me.

Credit Inquiries
Credit Inquiries for Personal cards come from BofA. Inquiries for business cards come from FIA.
Credit bureaus usually merge inquiries from the same requester made on the same day.
Inquiries from BofA and FIA will not be merged.

Does one have to call BoA to lower a card's credit limit?
Yes, there is no longer any way to contact BOA online. Phone is the only method currently.

When do the initial bonus miles post? You will get the miles after the statement closes for the cycle in which you meet your minimum spend. Usually AS points show up the Sunday evening after your statement closes, but sometimes it takes an additional week.

If there's a statement credit, when does it post?
It seems to be batch-processed. It will post automatically. Can be on the same statement or the next statement. It does not appear to be based on the statement close date.

Can you send a secure message through your account online?
No. BOA has removed the secure message functionality, even for Preferred members. The only way to contact BOA now is to call them.

Can I apply for another personal Alaska card if I have one open already?
Some people still can, but these days many people get denied. If you don't want to risk getting denied, it's probably better if you close any existing personal Alaska cards before applying for another one. But be sure to lower credit limit as low as possible at least a few business days before you close the card (though the earlier you can do it the better), because credit limit that's left on the card when you close it stays unavailable to new card applications for a year or more (while credit limit that's lowered as a separate step becomes available to new card applications much sooner)!

that's like a death sentence denial. i am not sure if anybody here ever figure out how to get approved when asked for all these documents.

seems far and rare in between.

I called a few months ago about that request and I said most of those documents don't apply to me, and the agent on the line (without asking who was calling) immediately said "let me guess, you applied as sole proprietor, right? In that case, you only need to submit the tax returns, nothing else". BofA stupidly sends out the same letter whether you applied as a sole proprietor or some other form of business, where 90% of what they ask for only applies if you're some other form of business.

Yes you can always get past request for those docs if you are sole proprietor. As long as you are willing to share your complete peraonal tax returns - way too intrusive for me and there is not a card out there that I will release that for.

decreasing credit limit to help with approval odds?

I just applied 3 BOA cards - BOA Alaska business, BOA Amtrak personal, BOA Alaska personal 3 days ago.
The business card got approved without any notification 1-2 days later. Now my personal applications are still pending for 3 days now.
Only 2 new cards in the past 2 years. Last BOA card was in 1/2018.

My current BOA exposure is about 40% of my current income.

Should I decrease my existing credit limits to improve my approval odds or should I leave it alone in case if they need to auto-allocate the credit limits to open new cards later?

You should decrease you exiting credit limits to improve approval odds next year. BofA takes a long time to take decreased credit limits and add it to your "pool" for new credit limit, so don't expect any decrease today to affect approval odds this week or next week or the week after.

You should be decreasing your existing BofA credit limits proactively (say, as soon as you finish the minimum spend requirement), rather than waiting until you're applying for new cards.

The general rule on personal cards is that you want to make sure you never get above 30% of your credit limit at statement close, to avoid impact on your credit score. That's all you need in terms of credit limit. On BofA business cards (and any other business cards that don't appear on your personal credit report), you can use 100% of your credit limit with no credit score impact.

Got got mail asking for
  • Proof of business ownership or authorization to borrow on behalf of the business (e.g. corporate resolution, organization's meeting minutes, articles of incorporation, articles of organization or certificate of incorporation).
  • Verification of the legal structure of the business. Verification may include Articles of Inc/Articles of Org/Cert of Trade Name/Partnership agreement. For Non-Profit, provide primary mission (U.S or International) & legal classification (e.g. 501(c)(3)).
  • The two most recent accountant prepared, year-end business financial statements/tax returns
  • Your two most recent years of federal personal tax returns with all schedules. If you filed a tax extension, please provide a copy of your most recent W2 forms or, for sole proprietorships, an internally prepared year-end profit and loss statement.

Sucks... I was hoping I would get the auto-approval

If I have no Alaska Airlines credit cards, will I be able to keep the rewards points I currently have in my Alaska Airlines mileage plan?

Was thinking of cancelling my last Alaska Airlines card (business) to get an annual fee credit.

I'm currently trying to cancel the card (no option to downgrade), and try to get the $75 annual fee back - however they said there is no way to get me that $75 back, in the form of a statement credit or anything.

Any way I can get that money back? For the Alaska Airlines Business Card.

How long ago was the annual fee billed? I think you only get it back for a fairly short time after that.

B of A has really cracked down on anything that might resemble churning.
If you have a current relationship with B of A, it might be easier to get approval.
Now miles and companion code are contingent on required spend . Annual Fee not waived and new companion codes not deposited into account until 1-2 statements after AF paid. As noted sbove, AS Visa now required for payment of travel using companion code.

Start by reading this thread and the Doctor-of-Credit articles that are linked within it:

BofA's anti-churning policies: 2/3/4 (BofA cards), 3/12 or 7/12 (all banks)

It's a separate thread because all of these policies apply to all BofA cards, not just Alaska cards. (Though it's not clear if they apply to business cards or not.)

As you will see, BofA is emulating Chase's 5/24 more than anything at Citi.

Meanwhile, a couple more things to know:

1. After you finish the minimum spend, lower the credit limit as low as you can, as soon as you can. Don't wait until you're about to cancel! BofA can take many, many months to take credit limit that you cancel and make it available to a new application. Cancel a couple cards without doing this, and you might you cannot get another card approved because all your available credit is in limbo.

2. Comparatively few people apply for Alaska business cards, and the datapoints on them are thus few and far between, and often a bit conflicting. Some people need to cancel their prior business card before applying for a new one, other people don't seem to need to. No clue as to why the difference. Also, BofA throws constantly-changing and semi-random "roadblocks" in the way of business applicaitons: Requests for tons of materials, wanting to see business credit history from a source that doesn't list business cards at many banks , wanting you to open a CD, etc, etc. So don't assume that the only choices are denial vs approval, it's very much more complicated.
