The requirements for the application process varies from bank to bank based on various online data points collected from FlyerTalk, Doctor of Credit, etc.
Some banks require that you go into a branch and apply personally. Other banks want you to have another account open for 90 days before you can get this card. Some banks (if you already have a relationship with them) let you apply via mail. Sometimes you have to be a resident of the state they operate in, while some were able to get the card without living in those states. It is very much YMMV. You will need proof of income (W2, check stubs, etc). The only states City National Bank operates in are: NY, DE (only trust office, no go), DC, GA, TN, MN, NV & CA. The bank is looking for high net worth individuals, but that's not exactly consistent either.
The card has no foreign transactions fees and is fee-free the first year, then $400 annually.
Register your card for online access (cno.cnb.com). This changed on Sept 19 2019.

Such a sad story. We enjoyed it while it lasted. I can't see why would anyone in their right mind keep this card. Devaluated points, crippled benefits, terrible website (The old one was so much better). This turned out to be such a sad story in the end.
This card went from a secret gem to a useless paperweight in a matter of couple months. If, somehow, you still see any use at all for this card, please enlighten me.

So same experience as everyone else -
1. legitimate expenses (mainly reward taxes) not reimbursed - one of them was incurred on Jan 2, still no reimbursement
2. spent the $5,000 over Christmas for 10,000 bonus point that still has yet to hit
So sad since it was one of my go-to cards with tons of organic spend. I also have a bank account with them to try to improve my relationship. The 180 overnight, crazy.

They are also spending a considerable amount of money advertising in the NYC Metro market. Presumably this is aimed at wealth management clients, but having this card as a perk to offer would have something for them to consider as an incentive. Now CNB is just like any other bank looking for WM clients, but has nothing special to offer.

For those who spend 75k+ on CNB they can also sometimes get their AF waived. But I'd rather just have a Plat for airfare, and benefits, and not have to commit so much spend to one system, and unreliable rewards points.

They tend to have income/assets and somewhat complicated financial needs that needs customization.
If your suits are custom tailored, and need to be fitted in person, the web site of the tailor isn't so important.
Most of the vocal posters on this thread were never really ideal CNB customers to begin with.
It just took CNB some years to figure that out.
Maybe some of the mass affluent here could have become CNB loyalists over time, and loss leader Crystal was a good enough way to try to get them in the door, but it wasn't used appropriately.
I think their bankers should have been charged for it like a personal marketing budget.
That would have internalized the cost at a local P&L level if they wanted to have such a product as bait for banking biz.

How long for card closure to reflect on CNB system?
I phoned in today to close my CNB Crystal Visa. The rep indicated that the closure would be effective today, and he emailed me to confirm that I had requested card closure today. My AF was scheduled to post this Friday (3 days time). The rep indicated that they would not charge the fee as the card is closed, though I would keep receiving monthly statements till the outstanding balance has been paid off. Any DP's on how long for the CNB online system to show the card status as closed?

I did the downgrade in lieu of the cancel. I am fully expecting to fight for the $350 credits over several months before one of us gives up (probably them, I have a very good story behind all of these credits that seems consistent with their very arbitrary — and probably not legal — Change to the T&Cs).
In the meantime, I have a pile of AA gift cards. Phoenix anyone?

My rep said that she had to refer the closure to a different department and could not send an email. Said I would get a letter in mail.

To receive the statement credit, the Account must be open and in good standing (i.e., not in default) on the date the statement credit is posted to the Account. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks after a Qualifying Airline Purchase is charged for a statement credit to be posted to the Account.
