This is becoming quite the saga, but apparently we should not yet despair about Ameriprise...

Dear PTSBrian,
Thank you for your question regarding what "level" your Priority Pass card will be in October of 2011. I have communicated with MasterCard and Priority Pass and the answer was that the levels have not been set as of this time. Communication is ongoing between MasterCard and the issuers of the World Elite cards to determine what level the Priority Pass cards will be set at.
I will update you within the month with information as I receive it.
Sincerely at your service,
Xxx Xxxx
Concierge Manager
Of course, this could just be trying to drag it out to see if another month's worth of annual fees can roll in before the big announcement is made, but I'll try to stay optimistic.

Goodbye Ameriprise World Elite MasterCard. It was good while it lasted.
Not really, I'm guessing it's more that Priority Pass is making the Select option available to financial institutions at a lower cost (or just without those lounges) so that those institutions that negotiate separate agreements with UA/CO can make sure they use their credit card for access to those lounges instead of using the Priority Pass (which is probably favorable financially to the CC companies).

Since the Ameriprise card doesn't have other lounge agreements, I'm guessing they would keep us at the same level, since there is no conflicting agreement.

The conflict would not be at Ameriprise, it would be if Chase has the exclusive right to issue cards which include access to CO/UA lounges.

Ameriprise Priority Pass

I just received my annual PP card from Ameriprise and looks the same as last year (it does NOT say Select on the card, still says VIP Lounge Access on the side). Hopefully, this is still the prestige level and we don't lose the UA/CO access.

American Express Hilton Surpass credit card includes basic Priority Pass membership which requires a $27 payment for each entry and each guest:

It looks like the select version may be created for US based Amex Plat and not necessarily all credit cards. But we'll see soon enough.

As I posted in the other thread about the free DL Sky Club passes for Ameriprise, it got me thinking about this. When I spoke to the Ameriprise Rewards rep she explained this free Sky Club offer was put in place by Ameriprise due to the loss of DL Sky Clubs in the Priority Pass program back in 2009. I think it's interesting on the positive side of things that a credit card company would do something like this to offset the loss of benefits to its cardmembers. Makes me much less nervous about the 'select' PP membership floating out there, as I think Ameriprise will work on preventing a loss of benefits to its members. Just my .02

Just got my PP from Amex Hhonors Surpass and it is Select. I never use this PP card anyways (I also have an Ameriprise), but hopefully Select cards will only be an Amex thing.

On the other hand only AMEX's lounge access program gives access to Delta. I think UA is taking sides with either visa or Chase (don't know which yet) and DL AMEX. UA probably negotiated this restriction in lieu of just leaving the program entirely like Delta.

I don't know PP's business model, but my assumption to this point is they charge a flat annual fee to you, and pay peanuts for each visit you use. They hope they make out over their entire customer base from lack of excessive usage.

One thing which will be interesting to determine is if AMEX moves to PP, and in doing so they loose Delta lounge access. I imagine they wouldn't let this happen.

I received a new card last week (first one - World Elite). It doesn't say "Select", but nor does it say "VIP". (?)

I'm hoping that the Select may only apply to memberships with the co-pay. Does that sound reasonable? When I log in and view CO lounges, there is no "wording" to say that it's going away (as with the anonymous views). I know others here see the same thing. I wonder, if you have a "Select" membership, does anyone see the same wording while logged in?

Have you contacted your credit card issuer to ask? There seems to be a discrepancy between Priority Pass's blanket statements and the credit card issuer's specific plans. I don't see any basis to judge who is correct until more people report the membership cards they actually receive.

Priority Pass Select

What is Priority Pass Select?
Priority Pass Select is a worldwide airport lounge program specifically designed for US members who obtain their membership through US financial institutions.

It offers access to over 600 airport lounges throughout the world, which members can access whenever they travel, regardless of the airline they are flying or their class of travel - all that is needed to use a lounge is the Priority Pass Select card.
