I guess they better get that Covax program going so people in these poorer countries don't have to get the Chinese or Russian vaccines.

I can not find a lot of information about the Maldives, except that there they used Sinopharm and AstraZenecca
In the Seychelles:
84% are locals, 16% are foreigners
65% of cases are unvaccinated or only with 1dose
35% are vaccinated with two doses, mostly Sinopharm which has 50% efficiency, so the proportion makes sense.

Thanks good to know.

Maybe it's also a variant, though if the people who got AZ weren't as impacted, that would also be a good sign.

If Sinopharm is demonstrably doing worse vs. AZ, maybe the countries will try to secure different vaccines, stop using Sinopharm as much.

Covaxin is touted by the company as having high efficacy. But there's controversy because it received emergency use approval from the Indian regulator before completing Phase 3 trials.

Still, maybe they'd be exporting more of it to nearby Seychelles and Maldives if not for the situation in India.

The Maldives data would be useful for that. The spread is incredibly fast so this is to be monitored closely.

another interesting question is how many cases are in children or linked to an infected child, as this population is not vaccinated.

Has anyone charted Iceland's and Greece's infection scene this year after their respective openings up to vaccinated travelers from at least the US?

Enough to get attention:

"What stands out is that cases among children and young people are increasing among those between 0-19 years. ..... We have a high spread of infection in Sweden, including in relation to the rest of Europe" -- Sweden's Public Health Agency's Sara Byfors this week.

yes and it is the same in many countries. Several reasons for this :
- school
- no respect of hygiene and other rules (too difficult with young children, parties and seeing friends for teenagers)
- no vaccination
- many asymptomatic forms leading to higher spreads because the person doesn’t know he/she is infected.

So it is really urgent to approve the vaccines for children and vaccinate massively. Of course, we will face strong reluctance of usual anti-vax morons

The only small spike Iceland had recently was from someone who wasn't vaccinated who didn't respect their quarantine. Even vaccinated travellers need to be tested upon arrival and isolate until they get their results. They haven't found much cases at the border so far from the US. They plan to lift all domestic restrictions by June or July at the latest. That's when we'll have to watch for new spikes.

I wonder why the UK shows no case data / no cases reported on one map but then shows figures on the other?

No data is light blue (see the small region in Finland), the UK is light grey on the "European Union" view, same as Switzerland, because regional info isn't provided by the ECDC. National figures are provided though, and reflected in the global map.

Their daily cases rose as and with their opening to US visitors with Iceland-accepted evidence of vaccination against Covid-19. And now Iceland is back in the range of its 2020 April 15th-September 15th daily case peaks. Still very low levels of reported infection, but still an increase. But Iceland's in a much better spot with Covid-19 now than it was at this time last year, so they will almost certainly stick with their opening to vaccinated visitors.

Correlation is not causation, so it could be that an inclination to opening up to visitors is a sign of things that were already in play.
