Looks like a new release hit the internet today. It appears it allows you to buy RDMs on a specific itinerary.

When you click on it you can double your miles or triple them, with a different price point for each.

Looks like UA Mileage Accelerator is here to stay. :-: Also an indication that the CO website may stick around through the merger.

The caption includes "achieve Elite status quicker" so it looks like they are including EQM miles with the mileage purchase. It didn't say how many miles you get - does the $196 fee imply double miles/EQM for that itinerary?

Yes, it was double miles.

The wording is somewhat strange for the miles.

All miles purchased are non-refundable. A federal excise tax of 7.5% is included in the displayed price.
These miles credit to your OnePass account within 24 hours of purchase.
The miles you purchase with OnePass Reward Maximizer are redeemable miles and do not count toward Elite qualification unless purchased.
Purchased miles are subject to all OnePass terms and conditions.
That last line makes it seem like they will offer EQM at some point.

This is very confusing and needs to be edited:

The mileage maximizer service states on the splash screen:

"Achieve Elite Status Quicker" - this implies the purchase of extra miles includes EQM

Then the purchase detail screen includes the following:

The miles you purchase with OnePass Reward Maximizer are redeemable miles and do not count toward Elite qualification unless purchased.

So - which is it?? The bolded statement doesn't even make any sense!

I sent a note to the web product team, but hopefully Scott sees this here too - it will need to be edited before release.

So here's the deal:

At ~7.5cpm for EQMs, it's a bit pricey.

So you only see Elite Maximizer if you click the box to purchase the double (or triple) miles?

That is a very clumsy presentation - and way overpriced. I can buy an actual ticket and earn as many EQMs and 150% RDMs (as a Plat and CC holder) as this offer for far less money if I plan ahead.

I definitely agree with you. The RDM number is easier to swallow and I might be inclined to pay for it if I was looking at a reward trip and didn't have enough miles for it.

How are you earning 150% RDMs? I am a Plat and a CC holder and only earn 125% bonuses (100% for being a Plat and 25% for being a card holder). I can also factor in the double miles I get for buying the ticket with the card, but it usually doesn't add up to 25%.

My mistake - I meant 125% - I had a time-warp moment there.

So for this itinerary:

I was afforded the following. Wow. Just. Wow.

I can see these miles will be flying off the shelf like hotcakes :)

Seems a little bugged when you have a complex and long itinerary. I doubt that flightpath is exactly 7,500 miles or 15,000 miles.

The EQMs do come out slightly cheaper here...

mht_flyer Aug 26, 2010 11:17 am

With the elite maximizer who are they really catering to? Business travelers won't generally be able to pick this up for obvious reasons --- and personal travelers, I can't see anyone spending this kind of money unless it was a one time purchase to get up to the next status level and no other travel was planned.

Doesn't seem like a good deal to me -- though I guess if I was at 74000 and needed it for plat, I may do this. But generally it seems like a huge cost.

iansr Aug 26, 2010 11:30 am

To me it sounds like they would be catered to somebody that was on the verge of elite status and trying to decide between a mileage run or lower status. Instead they could pay a bit extra cash and go to the higher status and not have to do the run. Although the run is definetly more fun.

Agree -- a mileage run is definitely more fun :)
