I'll be printing BP's tomorrow so, if the software has been updated, I'll let you know what, if anything, is printed on them regarding Secure Flight.

Hi SuperG1955, SecureFlight data is transmitted behind the scenes and will not be denoted anywhere on your boarding pass. The process is very similar to how we send passport information behind the scenes for international travel (APIS).

One thing that was a little confusing was that it said that the Middle name and the Suffix (Jr, Sr, etc) was "optional". Does that mean that you don't have to mess with them or that some might not have them (middle names or the suffix)? or both? I assume that it means that some might not have them.

It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out, in general. It might be a nonevent or I could see it being a real show. :(

You are being asked to enter the information as it apears on the specific ID that you are entering, which can be different for different ID's. My Passport is just first and last name. I have a state id card with just first and last name and a drivers license with first name, middle initial and last name. None of them have a suffix so I left that blank and in the case of the 2 with just a first and last name, I left the middle name blank.

There is no requirement that you save this information to your profile. You can enter the data each time you purchase a ticket.

The place that it becomes confusing to the user (I reported this to the Preview Team) is that when you purchase a ticket, you must provide the information if it is not saved in your profile or select the entry if it is saved in your profile. When I was presented with the choices from my saved entries, it only showed me the name, not the ID Type. Since I had 2 ID Types with the same name, I could not distinguish between them to choose the one I wanted. This could become a problem in the distant future if TSA ever got automated and electronically matched a scan of your Boarding Pass with the SecureFlight Data that they had received from the airline. If you selected one and then presented a different document, they'd probably go ballistic. For those of us that purchase well in advance, you'd have to remember which one you used for that reservation.

Based upon the demonstrated TSA expertise to date, I wouldn't expect this to happen in my lifetime.

Latest Preview Program is up - new upgrade features!

Hi Everyone, the continental.com Preview Program is now up and running with our latest release at preview.continental.com. We won’t be sending an email this round, but we do have some new functionality that we hope you’ll be able to check out. Most notably, we are introducing the following new and improved options for upgrading an existing reservation:
  1. An improved way to redeem OnePass upgrade rewards, including the ability to waitlist!

  2. An all-new option to pay the difference between your fare and the lowest applicable front cabin fare with the change fee waived. For Elite members, this includes buying up to the lowest fare that allows an instant Elite upgrade, when available.
Just look for the “Upgrade Reservation” option when viewing your reservation online.

In full disclosure, there are a handful of bugs we’re still working through, including some inconsistent handling of partially-flown itineraries, itineraries involving multiple operating carriers, and tickets purchased through travel agencies. Most of these issues will be resolved soon, and others will be addressed in upcoming releases.

Thanks for your time, and as always, we look forward to your comments.

If you’re not a member of the Preview Program but want to be, just send your FlyerTalk handle and OnePass number to me at [email protected].

Choices and more choices. Upgrade with $, upgrade with miles, discounts for R/T $ upgrades.

It looks nice Scott.

I imagine that there'll be more upgrades and fewer EUAs as a result. Better for CO's bottom line, worse for my bottom in the Y Exit Row

Well, I'm off to find more goodies in the new code.

CO Insider, thanks for the update!

One question I have is what is the criteria for the $ buy-up to an upgradable fare class? I have a couple of one ways that do not seem to qualify.

SuperG1955 Dec 10, 2009 9:28 pm

Having just checked the remainder of my reservations I find that I'm only offered mileage upgrades on some flights, I'm being offered mileage + $ on some domestic travel, and on another flight I'm offered mileage only while NOLALady is offered $ buy up or mileage (separately booked PNR's).

sdm1130 Dec 10, 2009 9:33 pm

I also only seeing mileage + $ upgrade options.

It's nice to see we can now waitlist online though! ^

rkkwan Dec 10, 2009 9:34 pm

Found that one-way upgrade on the website for a G fare HKG-EWR is only 20K + $450, not 30K in the charts.

*sniffle* I wasn't invited either apparently.

Just want to say thanks... and the bug I reported today regarding seat selection after an EUA is solved in the preview release.^

benolaa Dec 10, 2009 10:27 pm

Wow really nice interface although I am now hooked on M fares for long flights so I will probably not use very often. I am glad to see the waitlist option online!

mbreuer Dec 10, 2009 10:33 pm

Ok - I don't see the "upgrade reservation" option listed for my reservation. It's not partially flown (or even checked in yet), it was purchased on co.com, it's all on co metal.
